Case Lupe was suggested by one of our co-workers Robin. Said it was quite good so its our job at jatbar to investigate. Im not sure if Robin knows we are a bunch of hard-asses when it comes to rating mexican restaurants. I can think of anyone who eats more mexican food than Terry and I. 56 mexican restaurants and counting...haha

Located on Castro street in Mountain view, we causally stroll in and literally watch the paint dry on the walls at Casa Lupe...ok, Im exaggerating but it took them a couple of minutes to even acknowledge we were standing there. Its customary for someone who works there to just say Hi we will be with you in a sec...no love...ok, back to the real dealio...the food.

We sat down and the waitress immediately brought out a plate of chips with 2 small bowls of salsa. EVIL EVIL...we moved through the chips in no time...it was ok, I think we were just hungry. I ordered the enchilidas verde with beans and rice. With a short wait, the waitor brought our food on hot plates. Quick rundown...

rice - good stuff, I liked

beans - ahhh...ok, needs a little work in the lard department. I dont mind the fat, I just want more flavor

enchililadas - green sauce was weak but the chicken was moist and tender.

Overall, the food is ok. I would probably come back, the lunch prices were a respectable $7-9 and restaurant had nice decor with excellent lighting through the large glass walls.

We were driving down Castro and saw Casa Lupe and decided to try it out. The place was a bit small compared to other mexican restaurants in Mountain View, but looked like a family style restaurant. We sat at a table in the crowded cramped establishment. I decided to go for my normal Vegetarian burrito. They quickly brought out chips and salsa. The salsa was pretty tasty (they gave us two types) but the chips were kind of stale tasting but had good salt on it.

The food arrived about 10 minutes later. My burrito was monstrous and the plate it was on was piping hot. It was a rather hard looking flour tortilla covered in red sauce and sour cream and guac. Inside were rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, peppers. The ingredients inside tasted pretty fresh yet the whole thing together was kind of bland, highlighted by the stale tortilla. The red sauce on top was unimpressive. I was hoping for something with a little more pizzazz, especially considering that this is a Mountain View burrito joint.

Perhaps I just ordered the wrong dish. I am willing to go back and give them another try, but I won't order a burrito next time.
