Talk about hidden off the side streets, Crossings Cafe isn't a place you would find unless heard about it from a friend, lived in the neighborhood, take Cal Trains, or read about in a restaurant review site. This small corner sandwich shop and probably a huge favorite with train commuters on the San Antionio stop.

Heaving heard nothing about this place, we were pretty excited to try a new place. The menu boasts numerous breakfast items, salads, and sandwiches. Prices are reasonable with no items costing more than $7. I favor club sandwiches, I couldn't resist in ordering one on wheat with a 7-up.

We took a table outside and weathered the intense heat under a patio umbrella. For the last couple of days, the temperature has been in the mid 80's to low 90's. It was nice to be outside and had a good view on the passing trains. Sandwiches took a bit longer to deliver for who knows what reason....not unbearable but noticeable.

My sandwich was delivered after a 15 minute wait with a mixed green salad. The salad was a nice touch and healthy tasting. The dressing was a balsamic vinegar mix and very flavorful.

Crossings Club Sandwich was on toasted wheat and somewhat your standard sandwich with the exception of the mustard. I don't dislike mustard on my clubs but it's normally not put on them.

bread - fresh, just your standard wheat bread from the market, lightly toasted. 3 slices but 4 ways.

toppings - tomatoes, romaine, mayo, mustard, american cheese, and bacon. you know I'm going to talk about the bacon, crispy and awesome. I probably would order without the mustard if I were to order it again.

meat - turkey, kinda watery, deli cut style. Meat was piled on so there were no shortages of meat. It wasn't bad but don't go expecting turkey like it tastes off a turkey dinner.

Did I like it? Heck yeah, this place is good. My sandwich only cost me $5.75 with the salad, it was an enjoyable lunch. I love club sandwiches and this one gets flying colors for presentation, portion size, and price. Crossings Cafe has the markings of a classic breakfast and sandwich shop. It's clean, people were friendly, and you can sit outside and watch the trains chug on by. I consider Crossings Cafe a Mountain View hidden jewel....CHOO-CHOO.

We were looking for something in the area, and found it via one of the mapping sites. We were completely unsure if we had been here before (before starting jatbar) and got a good laugh at how out-of-the-way this place is. Well I suppose it won't be a popular jatbar destination, but we should report as much as we can.

We get there and its fairly quiet. A small number of people (possibly locals who live nearby, or people walking in from the scattered businesses nearby). I notice indoor and outdoor seating. There were a few tables open outside, so that was the natural choice.

When walking up to the counter, the menu is on the wall. It was a bit tough to read, being that it was written on chalk and the sun reflection was playing tricks with my eyes. But I saw the veggie section of the menu and was happy to see that they seemed to be solid choices, not compromise dishes. I opted for the veggie sandwich.

I was expecting some kind of bland sandwich with possibly fresh vegetables but little flavor. I was blown away. These guys really deliver the goods. There was hummus in there, the expected fresh vegetables, mayo, dijon, 2 slices of cheese. It sounds possibly like an odd combination, but it REALLY worked well. This was a damn good sandwich. I was a little bummed at the small size of it (for the price) but I had no problems eating this thing rather quickly.

I look forward to testing a number of other items on their menu. Its too bad they are so out of the way, it is a solid lunchtime destination.
