Tonight was a special night at Don Giovannis as we recruited agent Rob for the review site. We welcome Rob to the jatbar family.

Don Giovannis is located off Castro street in downtain Mountain View. With large indoor seating and outdoor patios, reservation are probably not required. Surrounded by bars on both sides, after dinner drinks would complement the night very well.

Service was excellent as the waiters and busboys were very attentive to our needs. Bread was brought out immediately and waters were refilled frequently. The bread could use a little more work, it was nothing special, I could buy this stuff at the local grocery store.

I ordered the Risotto Frutti di Mare. It was a tasty meal. The dish was creamy, rice had good texture, and seafood appeared to be fresh. Very happy to see that the rice was not overcooked or mushy but had a firm bite to it. Although plenty of seafood (1 large prawn, smaller cut shrimps, clams, mussels, and salmon) was present in the dish, I think it could have used more fish stock to flavor the meal. Id rate this a 7.5...Im not sure if its worth the $16.95.

Mike and Julie were kind enough to let me try a sliver of the cheesecake. I even snagged a strawberry which appeared to upset Julie...dessert was good.
Dinner was above average as nothing stuck me as ground breaking for the prices we were paying but with great service and beautiful decorations, Don Giovanni comes in with an 8.

I have lived in Mountain View for 2 years and have always wanted to go to Don Giovanni. Located right next to Mollys on Castro, Ive walked by it many times and seen their beautiful outdoor seating area. I never realized what a huge dining room there was beyond the doors. We opted to sit inside, and enjoy the lovely dining room. It was very spacious and had grapevines and other decorative painting on the walls. The atmosphere gets high marks – a very well put together restaurant.

The service was excellent. All the food came quickly and we never had to ask for anything – water glasses refilled, bread replenished, and used plates quickly removed. I started with a salad, the Gamberetti Primavera. Chilled baby shrimp added a lovely taste to the mixed green salad. As a main course I ordered one of their specials: fettuccini with mushrooms, garlic and tomatoes in a wine sauce with prawns. It was delicious! The sauce was not at all heavy and all the tastes went together well. It was also a large portion and I had filled up on salad, so I left with a sizeable take-home box – Ive since made 2 more meals out of it.

The last impression of any meal is the dessert, should you choose to get one, and in this case the dessert was a 10. We got a piece of amaretto cheesecake. It was creamy and moist and flavorful. The strawberry sauce drizzled on the plate added an extra kick - it was immensely satisfying.

Don Giovanni comes in at a solid 9. However, Ill have to save up for my next visit as I ended up dropping $40 for the dinner.

So a few people at work decided to all go out for an Italian dinner in Mountain View. The pick was Don Giovanni. Really nice atmosphere, It felt really classy in this place. All 4 of us were seated in a rather tight booth. I had to push back on the seats to get more room. I dont counts this against them cuz I do this at a lot of places.

First off we ordered a bottle of Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva Chanti. It was a good choice and was under $40. Only 3 of us had wine so I lasted perfectly thought dinner. They made sure that we had plenty of bread and with olive oil and minced olive before we got our food.

Now for my dinner selection, I cant remember the name of my dish. It was pasta with clams and mussels in a white wine sauce. Delicious, but a little to much garlic, the waiter pilled on the fresh parmagean cheese if you asked for it. I definitely had plenty of seafood on it. Now since on not a big eater I was surprised that I ate my whole meal. It must have been good. I still had room for dessert too. Julie and I spilt a slice of amaretto cheese. HMM a good end to this meal.

Now for the check, well a bit more than expected: $160 with tip. I have had much better for much cheaper, but I wasnt that disappointed with this place. So would I come back?.... Sure why not. Ill give them and 8.5

Forcella ate...

Grilled chicken breast with polenta.

Very nice restaurant, very good food, I would say it was more "$$$" good than "$$$$" good. Portions were a little small for the price.
