Thanks to Susan for submitting Lukoki. Ive noticed that a lot of hawaiian places are popping up all over the bay area these last couple of months. Its a dream come true for people with large appetites and a small budget. If you are not familiar with the San Antonio shopping center, look for the Mervyns and Dairy Queen, Lukoki is right next door. I think Lukoki opened a couple of months ago and the interior is immaculate; sparkling floors, shiny tables, everything is new.

I wanted a good mix of hawaiian food so my order was the seafood platter with pork. The seafood is 2 pieces of shrimp, deep fried mahi mahi, and kaluha pig.

shrimp - awesome, nice size, cooked just right, lightly breaded

mahi mahi - fresh tasting fish, not too heavy on the batter, I would order it again

kaluha - moist, soupy consistency, thought they skimped out on the cabbage, not too salty, great to put over the white rice

My seafood platter was great all around and left me completely stuffed. Thats not a surprise considering hawaiian food gives you an overwhelming amount of food. I was able to sample the garlic shrimp and those are the real winner tonight. They were cooked to perfection with an excellent mix of butter and garlic. Service was friendly, plates are cheap, and portion sizes are large. Lukoki could not go wrong tonight, everything that we ordered was damm great. If you are in Mountain View and want to try Hawaiian food, stop by and you wont be disappointed.

I ran some errands in the area and decided Hawaiian Food would hit the spot.

Inside is a very nicely decorated. With Hawaiian pop music playing overhead I felt transported to the islands. Add some humidity outside and I was there.

The cashier couldn't muster a smile, but no matter. Maybe the earlier lunch rush kicked them. I ordered a regular chicken katsu and Lilioki (passion fruit) iced tea. I would have ordered the kalua pig, but the word is, it's a soupy mixture here, not appealing to me.

I sat by the large plasma TV and settled in. Wait was longer than I expected. I was the only person there.

Alas 12-14 minutes later a beautiful and holy smokes, LARGE plate of crisp chicken katsu, 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of mac salad arrived. I immediately dug into the 2 large pieces of katsu. I received 2 slabs of thin pounded breast meat. I dipped the outer pieces of chicken into a delicious katsu sauce It tasted better than the usual Hawaiian joints. I think they added sherry wine and simmered this sauce down. ery good. But, here's where things went wrong... the chicken tasted a bit spoiled. Gamey and odd tasting. That plus the chicken was rubbery and very dry. I ate the outside pieces then took of the coasting of the inside pieces to taste the chicken alone, just to be sure. Yup, this chicken didn't taste right. Maybe it was freezer burnt? Was is a bit spoiled before the coasting went on? Sad... I didn't finish it.

The rice was perfect and the mac salad decent. The mac salad would have benefited from having minced onion added. Rather bland in seasoning but added pepper helped.

Overall, I was disappointed in my experience. I'm on the fence about going back. I'd more likely go to Da Kitchen on Shoreline before Lukoki again. I hope today was a fluke and the next time I decide to visit the food improves.

I had the LauLau Combo

Worst food ever. The kalua pork was a soupy mess with no flavor and the pork wrapped in seaweed was dry and stunk. I will never go back there. Even the macaroni salad was tasteless.

Chicken Katsu

I don't think the Chicken Katsu is "chicken breast," I think it's that pressed-and-formed "breast-shaped" chicken you get in company cafeterias. I give Ohana Grill in San Jose a "10" rating. By comparison, I give Lukok
