Located at the Shoreline Park in Mountain View, Michaels is probably not a restaurant you would run into during your lunch break. Easiest way to find it is exit shoreline and go east until the road hits the restaurant.

Sitting on the outdoor patio is the thing to do at Michaels. Stare out into the golf course and appreciate the weather. Very serene and makes you forget about going back to work.

The lunch specials are reasonable with plates ranging from $6-9. Included in our lunch specials was a side of bread. Bread was excellent, very dense and enough to put a dent in your stomach. I got the salmon with pasta, spinach, shrimp in a cream sauce. Salmon pieces were minced up, shrimps were tiny, spinach was a good touch to the meal, cream sauce was borderline artery clogger. The dish was extremely rich and yet I would have no dilemmas about ordering this dish again.

For an enjoyable lunch with a peaceful setting, try Michaels at Shoreline.

Michaels at Shoreline is a bit out of the way for a normal lunch excursion (its located off the shoreline golf course at the end of shoreline) and maybe a bit pricey (I paid about $9 for my lunch) but its pretty darn good. I ordered the special of the day, or one of them. It was the seafood fettuchini. The service was quick, and the food was VERY nicely prepared. The bread that came with it was quite fresh and flavorful. Definitely better than I expected. The fettuchini was soft and fresh. The seafood was a bit rich and watery, but tasty and went down OK for me. We sat right at the edge of a fountain overlooking the golf course. Wow, what a view, what a day, what a meal. There were a few flies buzzing around, but not overwhelming. I would go again soon.

I wish I thought to go to Michael’s more often. Since it is located in Shoreline Park, I sometimes forget it is there. But, that is unfortunate, because nothing helps a work day seem less like work than a lunch at Michael’s at Shoreline. I would eat here solely for the atmosphere. The big patio, that offers seating both in the shade and in the sun, affords beautiful views of the golf course and lake. And since every day in California has perfect weather, I can not think of a better environment in which to enjoy my lunch.

As a bonus to the beautiful setting, the food is really good. It can be a little confusing to order the first time you go. There is a lunch menu, and many items are on display in a glass case near the register. If ordering a cold dish (they offer all kinds of salads that get tossed before your eyes), then you wait under the sign that says something about “cold food”. If ordering a warm dish (I highly recommend the chicken portabella melt sandwich), they give you a pager and you pick it up under the sign that says “Hot dish pickup”. Regardless of what you order, you get a freshly baked, warm roll which you can snack on while waiting for your main course.

It can be a little pricey, depending on your dish, but I would highly recommend this restaurant. There is also a significant lunch rush, so you will find shorter lines if you don’t go right at noon. Buy one of their fresh baked cookies for dessert, nibble on it sitting in the sun by the fountain, and have a mini-vacation in the middle of your work day.

I come to the park often and knew there is a cafe of some sort here, but never had the chance to try. Well, it was a surprising experience for me, in a good way.

I ordered one of the lunch specials, Louisiana Cajun chicken and sausage on a bed of penne pasta. Overall the food is ok, lots of chicken and the pasta was good. Sauce was a bit on the weak side though. I tried Jasons Alfred sauce dish and thought should have gone with that one instead. Oh well. For the price, its a good meal, plus the settings are relaxing, we sat right by the water and the golf course. Pretty good dining experience, I would say.
