Man Bo Duck and New China Delight must have retained the same servers and cooks. These guys cook and serve one of the fastest meals known my food existance. New China Delight possibly edges out Thai Pepper in Cupertino for fastest service. By the time we sat down, tea, water, salad, and hot and sour soup made its way to our table in 5 mins?

salad was shredded lettuce with some dressing on it served on a saucer dish. I didnt touch it as it didnt look too appealing. Hot and Sour soup was decent and spicy.

Service is fast and if you are on the go for lunch, this is a godsend. I was told to get the sliced pork with leeks. I ordered that and an appetizer of fried shrimp.

fried shrimp - nothing special here, just heavily bread shrimp thats been flattened. The shrimps in the pictures look like a good size but I could barely taste it. Half the batter and it will be ok.

sliced pork with leeks - I normally wouldnt order this dish but glad I did. This was tasty. Plenty of pork with leeks and what looked like chinese black beans. I dont think it was too salty, I wasnt drinking too many glasses of water afterwards. For a lunch special, its a good deal. I had enough food to take home for dinner and the waiter even through in some free rice. woohoo...

For a quick lunch and good prices, I like what I got today and would have no hesitation returning to New China Delight. I was able to try the other dishes and enjoyed what I tried.

Man Bo Duck, take II

A lot of this experience reminded me of Man Bo Duck - more than just walking through the doors. And some of it fell short.

I will admit I made a horrible choice of dishes today. I went with the tofu and shrimp. It was your basic lobster sauce type of deal, spread over barely cooked tofu and shrimp. The shrimp tasted decent, the tofu was just OK. Overall it was uninspired and completely by-the-numbers.

My dish was precluded by a small salad (odd for a chinese restaurant, but I went with it). It was just OK. Also hot-and-sour soup. This was also by the numbers and unexciting.

The highlight was the service speed. The dishes came out lightning quick. I pride myself on my quick eating speed (yeah, nothing to be terribly proud of) and the main dish came out before I could finish my salad and soup. Amazing. (just like Man bo Duck)

While Man Bo Duck put some rice on the dish, New China Delight put a rice bowl on the table for everyone to share. Not a big deal. Just something I noticed.

All in all, not impressed. I would return to try another dish, especially if I was in a hurry, but otherwise, there are better places around Mountain View.

New China Delight

Man Bo Duck take II? Not quite! Service is fast and friendly but the prices are much higher than the original Man Bo Duck.

My friend and I ate here for dinner on a whim. This place has a large menu full of various selections. Having two prices for lunch and dinner is uncalled for as its pretty much the same in terms of plate sizes. We walked in from the back and were seated immediately as the place was practically empty during dinner hours.

Our waiter was kind enough to recommend some dishes to us but we ended up going with a beef dish, a tofu dish, tea smoked duck, and Shanghai Steamed Dumplings. The beef and tofu dish are the same ones shown in the photos above (#4 and #7). As Terry mentioned the food came out super quick, but the place only had a few customers.

Beef: Good Chinese restaurants serve tender beef due to the fire under the wok. This is something that cant be imitated at home. The fire needs to be hot enough to cook the beef but not over cook it. The beef dish here is very tender. The dish came out hot so it was very enjoyable. (9/10)

Tofu: Tofu was nothing special. This is something that can be duplicated at home as its just some prawns with tofu stir fried. The Tofu was very tender as its probably soft tofu and has nothing to do with how hot the wok is. (7/10)

Tea Smoked Duck: We ordered the half version as its quite pricey as it is. The duck was over smoked and tends to be the general trend in several other restaurants Ive tried. There was only a few ounces of meat that was eatable where as most of the meat was dry. For some reason they served us a skinny duck as the duck barely had any meat on its bones. The smoked flavor is good, but only if the duck had more meat. (6.5/10)

Shanghai Steamed Dumplings: This came out hot and was definitely steamed properly and was spaced out properly. The dumplings were easy to remove from the wooden steamer. There were juices within the dumplings but not enough to see it weigh down on the bottom. The dumplings were good but not the best Ive tried. (8/10)

Over all impressions was that this was a good meal for most part as we both enjoyed the beef dish the best but our wallets felt a bit empty when we left. A lot of the dishes here are a bit over priced. If we were in the area this would probably be a choice a bit further down our list as there are so many other better choices in downtown Mountain View.

Pluses: Good selection of parking in back as longs as its not rush hour. Accepts major credit cards. Good service.

Minuses: Dishes are a bit over priced as there seems to be more value during lunch. This restaurant could be a hit or miss depending on the dish you order as they try to cater to both Asians and non-Asians.

Came here once before a couple of years ago and thought it was just OK. This time, read some reviews beforehand and was armed w/ the knowledge that it would be better to order the non-americanized dishes. I took this to mean either the sichuan or shanghai items.

The 3 of us ordered:

Chongqing fish fillets - this was the highlight of our selections, spicy deep fried pieces of fish infused w/ many whole red chili peppers. Quite tasty and just the right amount of heat. Definitely worth ordering again.

Sliced Lamb With Cumin - this was supposedly one degree of spiciness vs. three for the Chongqing fish, but it was actually much hotter than the fish, so much so that it was hard to taste the lamb or cumin. Probably too spicy to order again.

Sauteed beef on hot plate - this was the beef dish our waitress recommended. And it arrived miraculously fast, within 2 minutes of our order. In hindsight that was very suspicious, like she was pushing something that was already made. However, it was pretty tasty, and since it was not spicy was a good contrast to the above dishes. A possible repeat order.

Dry sauteed string beans - most chinese places do this dish pretty well and New China was no exception. These had good wok hay and were flavored w/ tiny pieces of fermented vegetables. Also worth ordering again.

In general, your best bet at New China is to order the spicier northern chinese items. Trend down the street is slightly better, but there are several more dishes here that I'd like to try in a return visit.

Chongqing spicy fish fillet, Hot Pot Chicken

Stunningly good if you order the weird Szechuan dishes as opposed to the more familiar ones. The fish was on a bed of dried hot peppers. Went there July 2006, couple of 2007.
