Terry and I didnt have a lot of time, didnt have a lot of money, TAAACCOOOSS AUTLENSE...shhhhh... The problem is, its getting harder to find places near work since weve hit almost 50 restaurants in the Mountain View area. Tacos Autlense is about 5 miles away and weve eaten here in the past but it didnt make a lasting impression on our last visit. TODAY was the exception!

I ordered the carne asada hard shell taco and a carnitas super taco. The hard shell taco was a 9!! It was sooo crispy, crunchy, and fresh tasting...I havent had a awesome hard shell taco in a long time...the tortillo they used reminded me of the chips sitting on our table..lightly salted and a great crunch to it. The super taco is a good sized treat for $2...topped on the taco is guac, sour, pico, beans, cheese, meat, and 2 corn tortillas. Eat 2-3 of these, and your stomach is happy and stuffed. If they would have put rice on this taco, they could call it an open faced mini corn burrito. Carnitas is roughly an 8..it doesnt matter though...I was still high off the Hard Shell Taco.

Final words...Im coming back to Tacos Autlense. I MUST have another hard shell taco. A lot of NASA workers tend to frequent this place but you dont have to be a rocket scientist to figure out Tacos Autlense serves the real deal.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 8/23/2004 - 9 Rating: Their hard shell tacos are off the hook. My favorite place to get hard shell tacos. So damm crunchy it breaks apart when you first bite into it. Few places deep fry their shells these days, a lot of them just serve pre-cooked shells.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 8/31/2004 - 9 Rating: It didnt take long to come back to Tacos Autlense. I had to get their hard shell tacos. Once again, it was awesome...like I said before, they have the best hard shell tacos in the Mountain View area. Crispy shells and plenty of meat.

***Update 8.31.05 ***
Its a sad day for jatbar as one of our favorite taqueria places have packed up and moved on. I believe they closed doors sometime in late July. I didnt even get to try my beloved crispy tacos 1 last time...sigh. Oh well, there might be hope as Gena from (http://www.mountainviewca.net/) said there was a sign for a location called Taco Luna. Last I heard, they were moving to San Jose.

We went here rather reluctantly as we had not been pleased with our orders here before. This time I went with a reliable Super Veggie Burrito and we sat down inside. They brought chips and salsa to the table. MMMM, what good chips. Salsa was very spicy and tasty. Munched that down quickly.

The Veggie burrito arrived. I must admit at first sight I was a little disappointed as the tortilla looked straight out of the bag. Cold and lifeless. No personality. I cut into it and wow, the story changed.

It was overflowing with life. Refried beans, fresh veggies, cheese, etc. The taste was amazing. Reminds me of a GOOD San Diego taqueria. Its different than good ones up here like La Bamba or Los Altos, but in a good way. We will be coming back here fairly often I envision.

RETURN VISIT for Terry! 8/31/2004 - 9.5 Rating: Wow, amazing. We went back to Tacos Autlense for lunch today and were summarily blown away. I had the Super Veggie Burrito and it is nothing short of fantastic. The minimal vegetables and the runny refried beans that melt in your mouth with the sour cream and cheese. Holy smokes. It doesn't matter how much this burrito costs, I would buy it. Its incredible. If the weather is nice, eat it outside on their covered tables and be done with it. The longer it sits, the less warm and tasty it is. I debated long and hard (its been about 6 hours since I had the burrito) and decided to bump it a notch from a 9 to a 9.5. This is the #2 burrito after La Bamba.

I went to Tacos Autlense for the first time a couple of weeks ago but have been slow to get my review posted. However, the fact that I still remember the food so well and how it tasted means that this place is definitely a solid 9.

First, I love little places like this - nothing fancy. Just good food and some tables to sit at. Tacos Autlense also has a nice outdoor area with picnic tables and that always makes me happy because it reminds me of home. I ordered a beef torta and it was one of the best Tortas this Mexican food lover has had! For one, it was HUGE! Half was more than enough for my dinner! There was some kind of cheese sauce on it which was a really nice touch. The meat was juicy and had a great flavor to it, and the bread was thick and crunchy. It was just delicious! The freshly made tortilla chips served with our dinners was the perfect addition.

I really liked Tacos Autlense. Friendly staff, cheap food, and delicious! The only unusual thing (I'll let you decide whether this is a plus or minus for the establishment) is that they don't sell beer.

Well I was down to 4 bucks and needed something to fill me up. Tacos Autlense did the job well.

I ordered 2 super tacos, one pollo and one carnitas. I can't decide which one I like better. I must go back again to experience these mouth watering tacos. They were served on double corn tortillas with melted cheese. Also a nice touch was a jalapeno pepper and a lime wedge. The tacos hit the spot and the whole meal was only 4 bucks! If you want just regular and not super the tacos are only a buck 40 each, you can't beat that.

I ate inside so I could relax and have a decent lunch the service was great. The women behind the counter even brought me out a bowl of chips and salsa which was great to have since the tacos were over flowing.

Great food and cheap! Muy Bien 9 stars.
