99 cent tacos on Monday....yaaaayyy..tooo bad it was Thurs when we visited...boooo...Taqueria 3 Hermanos has some competition with Tacos Autlense and Los Portales down the street. Ive always seen the 3 Hermanos sign but never saw a restaurant back in the strip mall. Grand re-Opening?? When of the first things I noticed when I walked in was the industrial steel rail guard inside the restaurant...like the ones you see at Disneyland to route the long lines...so hideous...maybe the lines stretch out the doors on Monday?

I got the 3 chicken flautas for lunch. Someone correct me if Im wrong but..arent flautas suppose to be made out of flour tortillas? These suckers were deep fried corn tortillas and look like taquitos on steroids. My dish came with rice and beans.

rice - i wanted to cry...it was sooo stale and crunchy. Either I get the rice that dries out on the top of the serving tray or I was eating yesterdays special.

beans - sigh...no love for this..very little flavor

flautas - no love either...wasted calories.

I cant say Id come back for this.

Taqueria 3 Hermanos was closed for awhile and finally reopened recently (within the last few months) so we had to try it out. Being across the street (practically) from Tacos Autlense it has to be pretty darn good to steal customers from them. Their big $1taco sign helps.

Taqueria 3 Hermanos is not exactly clean inside. Normally that doesn't bother me in the least bit (and honestly it doesn't bother me too much now). Their burritos are large for $3.85 so can't complalin much. But it just seems strange that they have only been open a few months and their place looks like its been open for decades.

I ordered the standard for me, Vegetarian Burrito. How was it? It was a bit slow arriving which doesn't bother me if the burrito is worth the wait. It arrived and was quite large in girth, but length was a bit undersized. Overall its equivalent to a normal super burrito. Its all good. How does it taste? The shell had a bit of crispiness to it but thats about where the goodness ends. The refried beans were a bit too runny (props for giving refried beans though), the rice at first was OK but upon closer inspection, it was CRUNCHY. Wow, crunchy? Yeah. They skimped on the cheese in my opinion, it was there but barely. They did go heavy on the hot sauce and peppers and parsley? etc. These are good things in my opinion. It shows they are trying to make the burrito stand out and be something better. I am all for that and salute them for that. First things first, though. You gotta cover the bases with the beans and rice first. If you can offer up award winning ricebeanscheese, then you can start going in your own direction with the other stuff. I think T3H has jumped the gun a little. If they covered their bases their burrito experience would be 8 territory easily. Perhaps these are growing pains? In any case, a commendable effort but not up to the Mountain View competition.
