I have been meaning to review this place for awhile as its such a large and popular place. Its not really a chain though there are 2 locations (this one in Newark and another in Campbell). The Newark one here is massive with lots of little rooms and hideaways. There is huge indoor and patio seating. Its really quite an amazing place to walk around in. And part of my high rating definitely goes towards the establishment. You need to go here just to check it out.

Hows the menu? Quite authentic I must say. I don't think anyone will have trouble finding something they like here. Lots of enchiladas, a few burritos, specialties, etc. I wanted to try the Crab enchilada as I don't think either El Patio or La Casita in Fremont carry these so figured I would try something new. It came with a salad (no blue cheese dressing! boo!), rice, refried beans, and 2 large crab filled enchiladas.

How were they? Salad was fairly good. Ordered it with the salsa oil dressing which was different and refreshing. The rice was very fatty tasting and filling but quite tasteless when compared to the powerhouses at El Patio and La Casita. The refried beans were on par with the other two and quite tasty. They put a ton of cheese on top which I would usually be 100% for, but I think it was a little much. The enchiladas were GREAT. It was an unfamiliar order for me so that was probably part of it. But these were genuinely STUFFED with crabmeat. It was VERY rich and filling to say the least. I left most of my rice and beans because of it (and their subpar - in my opinion - flavor). They give you a bit more food overall than El Patio La Casita but its a notch lower in food quality.

Wow I ate here so long ago. I remember it being so so scrumptious, I must go back and relive that memory sometime soon. I ordered some kind of a build your own taco dish, I forgot what it was called but it was delicious. The carne asada was cooked to perfection, the toppings were good, and the guacamole was superb. I wish they gave me a big bowl of guacamole, I could have eaten it straight out of the bowl.

They also give you chips and salsa as a starter, and I remember that it was really spicy. I normally don't like things that are too spicy, but the salsa was so good. I drank all my water and my mom's too =) I was trying not to eat it because it was hurting my mouth to, but my hands kept on grabbing onto the chips and dipping.

I really enjoyed everything I had there. I've only been there once, and I didn't pay. The only thing keeping this rating from going higher is the fact that I haven't been there in a long time, like several several years, so things may be different if I went to eat there today. Anyways, the food seemed to be genuine Mexican food when I went, the atmosphere was good, and I enjoyed everything about the restaurant.

Chicken Enchilada Dinner

My husband and I have been going here for about 11 years now. You can't miss if you order the Chicken Enchilda Dinner. Comes with two huge enchiladas filled with the best tasting chicken. So flavorful! You will waddle out of here for sure!
