This place has been a wishlist request for a LONG time. I'm talking a VERY long time. Finally got to stop in during my last visit to Oakland chinatown. I had just eaten a medium-sized meal and figured a half of a vietnamese sandwich would finish me off.

I walk in and the place is packed. There is seating (and a restroom even) in the back, but all of the tables were occupied. So I decided to get my veggie sandwich to go, and eat it on the street. As can be expected, it was dirt cheap - I think about $2.25 - and was made quickly. There were also tons of tray food items on the counter and in the display cases. Ultimate vietnamese fast food.

I pay and walk outside to eat. I see tons of people walking into this place. Its definitely doing a lot of business, and for good reason. I bite into my sandwich. WOW. Not only is it the spiciest vietnamese sandwich I have experienced, it is super flavorful. I will be honest, I don't know what all of the stuff in there was, but it was super good. All of the veggies were fresh and everything in there had strong flavors. The bread was a bit on the tougher side, yet still tasted fresh and wasn't overly crunchy. It made me feel guilty for not just going to Cam Huong first and eating two of the veggie sandwiches for lunch.

I finished half of the sandwich and polished off the rest an hour later. GREAT stuff. Cam Huong is now on my must visit list for every Oakland chinatown visit. I have yet to experience a better tasting Vietnamese sandwich.

BBQ Chicken Sandwich

Cam Huong makes my favorite bbq chicken banh mi. I love it when they take a whole thigh and hack it up for my sammich. Grilled pork is definitely excellent too! It's always a pit stop for me in Oakland's Chinatown. Glad you finally tried it!
