Ive been hearing that Christoper's Burgers was just as good if not better than Barneys Burgers. With 2 locations to choose from, we went to the Oakland location which would be a good compliment to an excellent dessert at Fentons Creamery.

When we got to Christopher's Burgers, it had appeared a tornado had passed through this restaurant. It was beat up...tables had food and empty dishes on many of the tables, floor was sticky, french fries on the floor, even the mayo containers were sitting in water as opposed to ice. The sign says it all...counter help needed. I felt sorry for the girl behind the counter, she was running around and obviously overworked. This would explain the long wait time to order. When we did get to order, I went with the Chris burger with California Jalepeno Cheese.

beef - when the burger came out, it smelled like steak. Normally a good sign for quality of beef. Its almost on a par with Barneys, wasnt too crumbly, lean tasting, and heavy on the pepper seasoning. I thought they went overboard with the pepper leaving me wondering what the meat tasted like.

bun - 2 sesame toasted buns that kind of looked like two tops. They were both round? Buns were good.

toppings - nice green lettuce, thick ripe tomato, bermuda onions. I wish I would have spotted the mayo earlier as I needed to mix it with mustard. Fresh quality ingrediants. I liked it.

shoestring fries - these fries are super skinny resembling real shoelaces. Heavy on the grease but definitely deserves ordering for your visit. The portion is huge.

For a place that has such a solid following, I thought Christopher's Burger was a lackluster experience. Maybe it had to do with the understaffed crew but for tonights dining activity I think Im being very generous with an 8.

Christophers was our final stop in Berkeley for another whirlwind adventure.

After a disappointing hot dog at Oscars, I was looking for a nice Veggie burger to lift my spirits and satisfy my soul.

Christophers looked promising with its classic-looking building, chic interior remodel, and decent menu selection of burgers.

I went for the Veggie Burger. Then took a seat. All of the tables, chairs and floor looked skanky. Just covered with a thick layer of grime and food crumbs.

Then the wait. Granted, there was a sign outside that said help wanted, but the wait was interminably long. So long that I was honestly starting to get a little frustrated. And I was here to enjoy and celebrate the restaurant experience.

When it arrived, I was surprised and let down all at once. The veggie burger looked interesting. The burger was kind of a crab-cake type of consistency. It was totally unlike anything I had seen in a veggie burger, and I salute them for that. It also tasted a bit subdued in flavor but still quite tasty for me. The thing was VERY dry though. You need to put a lot of mustard, ketchup, etc in your burger to enjoy it. The bread, though, was kind of blah, just toasted sesame seed bun. A bit crispy from the grill. Overall, just wasn't too interested in it.

I wouldn't mind giving them another shot one day as the veggie burger intrigued me, but as it stands, the slow service, dirty premises, and average taste just kind of left me wanting more.
