Fuki Sushi is another excellent sushi place to add to my favorites list Hotaru, Fuji Sukiyaki, Kyoto, and Sakae Sushi and Grill. We got there just after the lunch rush so it wasnt busy at all. Fuki is quite large with sushi bar, dining area, and tatami rooms. The atomsphere at Fuki is one of the better places we have seen, stone floor in the waiting area and excellent natural lighting coming through the windows near the sushi bar.

With an enjoyable atmosphere, I'm hoping my eating experience will match up. For todays lunch,

Maguro - excellent, nice cut, nearly melted in my mouth. No fishy taste, would definitely order it again

Alaskan Roll (Salmon with avocado) - Salmon is normally a fish I dont order. I have the worst luck and usually end up getting something that resembles fish bait but this time, the taste was divine. No complaints, would order again

Hamachi Maki with green onions - yellowtail was ok, I gotta keep reminding myself to order nigiri. I would be reluctant on ordering another one, it was good and everything but I need more fish

Bean sprouts - normally i wouldnt mention this small appetizer but this thing was tasty. I would guess they used, Sesame Oil, Soy Sauce, and some type of hot pepper. I could eat a bowl of this.

Wasabi - just ok, could have been been hotter

I cant wait to make my return visit to Fuki Sushi, I want to try the various lunches dishes. If I can change one thing about Fuki, probably lower the prices, it's a bit expensive but thats sushi for you.

When I first set foot in Fuki Sushi I knew this was a high quality place. The interior is very pleasant and airy. I ordered the spicy california roll and the Kani. The Kani was real crab meat (leg meat) on a diminutive roll. The crab tasted real good. Yet it wasn't what I consider a good Kani roll. I much prefer the Crab salad mixture over the real deal solid pieces. The spicy california roll was really tasty and spicy, Among the best I have had, yet it still wasn't up to Miyake or Arikato levels. I am sure this place rocks for real fish sushi pieces, but for my taste of rolls it was real good, but not legendary status.

One of the better sushi joints in the bay area.

Service - Impeccable. Very attentative, seated immediatly, never asked for beverage refills, great suggestions, and willing to become borderline annoying to make sure we were enjoying everything.

Ambiance - Open but private seating, think japanese tea house w/o having to share your space with other groups.

Food - I have yet to eat something I did not enjoy here. Food is always prepared in an excellent manner and would taste just as you'd expect it to. For a restaurant that does everything else so well you'd expect them to use top quality fish, they do not...I forgot how they rank sushi fish but if memory serves me correctly top grade is AA and the one below is A, they serve fish somewhere between A and BB. This could be because getting and stocking top quality sushi fish is not easy in the bay area. It is acceptable and does not take away from the experience.

I'd have no problem taking or recommending this restaurant to anyone I want to please/impress/satisfy.

I drove past this place looking for something to eat after a day of dealing with shady used car salesmen, and I saw the sign and vaguely remembered someone telling me this place was decent. My boyfriend also heard that this place was good so we decided to check it out.

We were there for dinner, it was decently busy and their togo seemed very popular, their counter was full of food and people coming in to pick it up throughout the night.

Service was decent, tea was brought out to us in an iron (?) kettle, it was very quaint. They started us out with a specials menu and I ordered this appetizer that was a mix of sashimi and foie gras rolled up with some other stuff with a ponzu based dipping sauce. It was about 15 bucks for 4 tiny bites, but oh boy they were good!

For dinner, I ordered the chirashi sushi, ama ebi, a spicy tuna roll, and uni. My boyfriend ordered the udon, and a few philadelphia rolls.

The fish was very fresh, and the rolls were decently sized. The chirashi impressed me as it came in a cute little bento box and it had two layers separating the fish from the rice. There was a good portion of fish, and they actually had uni in a cute little cucumber flower holder. The rice was very impressive as well, it was seasoned to be sweet with rice vinegar, and I think ume and something sweet that looked kinda like brown sugar but it wasn't. It went together very well and I was impressed with the chirashi as it's my favorite thing to order at a restaurant and they presented it to me perfectly.

The dinner set us back a bit more than we anticipated for casually driving down the street looking for a taco bell, about $180 with drinks and tip but everything was totally worth it and I'd definitely go there again.

wchane ate...

omakase - $28

I figured it was a random selection of 6-9 dishes as the menu stated. it's actually just one huge bento box that rarely changes. it wasn't worth $28, and i didn't find anything exceptional.
