I have never been to Palo Alto Sol but Terry and James made a visit or two. Well, you know me, Im willing to try any food once. Located in Palo Alto off California, this street has a number of restaurants with an interesting wine shop that has daily wine tasting.

With a small patio outside to baste in the sun, we chickened out and opted for the air conditioning and poor lighting. The decor of this place reminded me of 3 other places, La Fiesta, Fiesta Del Mar, and Fiesta Del Mar Too. Maybe they are all related or owned by the same family...hmmmm. And the food...well...I noticed it tasted very similar too..all the way down to the 3 salsa selection with your chips. It doesnt matter if they are all owned by the same family, I like all four places.

Todays lunch order was the Camerones Diabla (aka..hot shrimps). 7 large prawns, rice, beans, and flour tortillas.

Prawns - I ordered medium spicy and it was ok on my mouth. Prawns were not overcooked and sweet

Rice - good, tomato flavoring, fluffy

Beans - melts in your mouth not in your hands

Tortillas - slightly thicker than normal tortillas, tasted good??

My lunch was good today, service was great, chips and salsa were refilled, and water topped off 3 times during the meal. Lunch price was steep @ $15 including tip. If the price was cheaper, Id would rate Palo Alto Sol half point higher. Other than that, if Im in the area with $20 in my pocket and fancying mexican food, repeat visit is fine by me.

We had business in Palo Alto to attend to so Palo Alto Sol was a nice break in the day. There is ample outside seating here and I can see why. It was dark, dismally dark inside. If they made the interior a bit more warm and welcoming it might make the indoor experience a bit better. But lets get to the important part, the menu and the food.

The menu has a nice homemade touch in that it is all in handwriting.

I decided to go for the double combination of cheese enchilada and quesadilla. While waiting for food, we munched on some tasty chips and salsa (3 types are provided). Definitely the chips and salsa are a highlight here.

The food arrived quickly (it helped we got there before the lunch crowd). How did it taste? Well the refried beans were very good. They don't give much what they did provide was good. The rice tasted reheated, not quite as fresh tasting as the beans. They didn't appeal to me as much. The cheese enchilada also had a reheated taste to it, not very fresh in my opinion. The sauce that came with it though was very good. So smothering it in the sauce really helped the flavor. The quesadilla was the best part. They put a dab of sour cream and a dab or guacamole on top. Very good. I would go back for these quesadilla, the beans, an the chips, but I can't recommend their cheese enchiladas. How much did it set me back. The 2 item was $10. Wow, thats a lot of money for what you are getting here. I think the bang for buck was a bit low here at Palo Alto Sol, yet the experience was entirely bad, so I would happily return again to see if it can improve my rating.
