Patxis Chicago Pizza comes in as a wish list item and happy to report it was an enjoyable experience. Right off University avenue in Palo Alto, its quite refreshing to get good Chicago style pizza without having to drive out to Berkeley. Im not sure how long Patxis has been around but judging by the interior, I would say fairly new...sparkling clean inside.

Knowing the deep dishes pizzas take 30-40mins to cook, we ordered in advanced. Perfect timing because by the time we got there, they were just pulling the pizza out of the oven. Service is excellent! Waitors were extremely nice and attentive to our every needs.

Terry ordered a thin slice cheese on the side and it was just ok. I would stick with the deep dish. We ordered a medium Chicago style Special bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and sausage. Plenty of food for 2 people, prices are a little bit higher than average but you are paying for quality food. Now for the pizza breakdown

sauce - great and fresh stuff, had some tomato peels in the sauce. So far so good, no heartburn yet.

cheese - gooey and lots of it

toppings - sausage was good, im not too hot on bell peppers, onions were sweet

crust - simply amazing, I can eat this buttery flavored crust all day. Held firm throughout the slice but a tad soft towards the center.

I wont mention the other competitor across the bay but, Patxis does an excellent job at creating Chicago style pizza. If you have the urge, dont miss out.

Thanks to Don at sibilous.blogspot.com for the restaurant recommendation.

I'm usually not much of a deep dish pizza fan, nor am I much into vegetable pizzas (its gotta be thin crust and cheese). So we went to review a veggie deep dish pizza. Sure, Paxti's serves up other types of pizzas, but the Veggie combo seemed like a good try. The crust here is a tiny bit thicker than Zacharys, but not as huge as Pizza Chicago. Unlike Zacharys, Patxis doesn't have the whole stewed tomatoes, they use some kind of fresh sauce. Its good and probably won't give you heartburn as easily.

I also figured it prudent to try a slice of their cheese thin slice. It was not good at all. The pizza tasted a bit stale, the crust was not fitting of a thin slice. Stick with the deep dish pizza here.

I will give Patxis another try and next time I will order the deep dish cheese pizza. Its the true test for me, yet with a nice interior, friendly waitstaff, a pretty darn good deep dish pizza, in a great location, Patxis will have no problem filling their tables.

RETURN VISIT for Terry! 10/16/2004 - 9 Rating: Made a quick return visit and ordered the deep dish cheese this time. WOW. Its VERY close to Zacharys and definitely a much easier place to get to and to deal with on a Saturday night around 8pm. Can't beat that. Got out table in 5 minutes and the pizza in about 35 minutes. A nice selection of beers to hold us over. Great experience, great pizza. Give Patxis a try if you like Chicago style pizza.
