After reading Mike B wish list item on Darby Dan Sandwich Co, I had to make a visit. Im always on the prowl for a good deli sandwich and it was a short drive. Finding Darby Dan Sandwich Co isnt too hard to find but it isnt where you would think a good sandwich would be located.

I was told to try the Sleeper and if I recall correctly, its made up of Ham, Turkey, cheese, jalepano sauce, garlic mayo, bacon, and other veggies on a dutch crunch roll.

Meat - plenty of meat, good use of bacon (well thats not saying much since I can put bacon on anything). i still liked it though

veggies - fresh and just the right amount

jalepeno sauce - i was a little reluctant on this since I normally only have this in more mexican type foods but i think the peppers is what made this sandwich special. give it a try

bread - the dutch crunch is a star item! The bread at Darbys is soft and great tasting. If you have had dutch crunch at other deli places, you usually end up with 2 things; aching jaws since the bread is tough or get captain crunch mouth where the insides of your mouth get thrashed cuz of the crunchy bread. This is not the case over here.

So when you combine all these ingrediants, you get one of the best sandwiches in the bay area. Ask for the sandwich to be heated and you will drift into deli heaven. Eating the Sleeper nearly induced food coma and I probably could have awakened with a grin 2 days later. Although Ive only been here 1 time, I know Im going to visit at least once a month. I have to go back and try their other special sandwiches. I feel guilty for giving Darby Dan Sandwich Co a 9, I would say they are somewhere inbetween a 9-9.5.

As a devout sandwich eater (5+ times per week) I feel Im a pretty good judge of sandwich joints. Darby Dans offers excellent sandwiches. Meeting the criteria in fresh rolls, quality meat and a unique/original sauce. In this case the jalepeno spread is the specialty.

I order the Sourdough Roll with Turkey and cheddar with jalepeno spread. The sourdough is fresh, turkey tastes like its a real meat, not some processed deli meat, and the cheese they offer is generous with a bit of tang. All in all, Darby Dane offers a great sandwich, which is quite large(dont bother ordering chips) with quality ingredients, at a great price(around 6 bucks).

Located under some random "no tell" motel on North Airport Blvd is Darby Dan Sandwich Co. Straight up, this place rocks.

Sandwiches fall into 3 distinct categories. They're either "made", "hand crafted", or "hand carved". There's also "pre-fab" but those are usually found in the cold section of Starbucks, airport food courts, or next to the Boones at the corner liquor store.

Darby Dan falls into the hand crafted variety. The menu features the Sleeper, but I decide to go with turkey with swiss on wheat. Bread is fresh and pillowy. Good amount of turkey. Nice layer of veggies. The garlic & jalepeno spread keep things from getting boring. Include chips and a drink and you have lunch that's made with care. Typical tab is between 7 - 10 bucks.

Hot and cold sandwiches. Dining area is mix with table and counter service at the bar. Televisions to pass the time. Decent parking in lot or on the street.

Want a sandwich? Go to Darby Dan's.

Read a lot about this sandwich place and decided to give it a try. It's located in a pretty random and unpopulated area and looked like it was connected to a hotel. Surprisingly, it was pretty packed around 1:30pm on a Saturday afternoon.

I decided to try the Darby Dan sandwich which consists of ham, Italian salami, Mortadella, jalapeno spread, mayo, mustard, tomatoes & lettuce all wrapped in dutch crunch bread. I guess my expectations coming in were really high because I thought the sandwich was good but not spectacular. I feel like anyone can put this sandwich together. Perhaps they could come up with some unique signature sauce.

What I enjoyed most though was the jalapeno spread. I'm a big fan of jalapenos and jalapeno flavored everything so it's nice to have every inch of the sandwich lightly covered with it instead of taking a bite into a sandwich and not knowing whether my mouth will be flaming in the next couple seconds or not.

Bologna American Cheese on a Soft Roll

It wasn't as big as a Little Lucca's sandwich, but bonus points for the jalapeno spread. Tasty though. 8.5/10

Usually, I think the DD is fantastic on Dutch crunch but they totally skimped on the meat today. :( Normally, it's piled high to the sky. I asked for extra jalapeno sauce and woo-wee...nice!
