Sometimes on my way home from work, I'll jump on El Camino Real and scope out new places to try. I've seen El Charrito Taqueria a million times and its hard not to look at the cool restaurant sign that appears to be a cowboy with a lasso. Located in San Carlos at the corner of Holly and El Camino Real.

Its a small restaurant that has limited parking but I think you can park further down the street. El Charrito offers your standard fare of mexican food and menudo served on the weekends. Prices are wallet friendly with tacos setting you back for a mere $1.20 each. I opted for the 2 taco plate with rice and beans. My choice of meat was carnitas and pollo asado.

tortillas - very small corn tortillas, I think they fry them in oil for a minute or two? 2 tortillas per taco

beans - refried, runny, kinda melted in my mouth, just the way I like them

rice - moist, fluffly, another winner in my book

meats - carnitas was almost crunchy, heavy on the oil, it was just about average. The chicken had more flavor and was my favorite of the two.

salsa/sauce - I normally dont talk much about the sauces but the salsa verde was an excellent compliment to the tacos. It wasnt spicy or anything, you'll just have to try it for yourself.

El Charrito Taqueria is another mexican place that I can add to my personal favorites list. I like the food and the prices are right. For $3.60, you can get 3 tacos and water. My only gripe is the free chips...its those circular ones I think you can buy by the bulk at Costco. Those are horrible chips, I know its free but Im just telling you how it is.
