I was hanging out with friends Steve and Oscar and we were getting hungry so drove along El Camino until we spied this place. None of us had been before, so figured it was worth a try. The place wasn't too packed when we arrived around 6pm, but it was filling up quickly soon afterwards. The place is definitely more upscale than Thai places I am used to (and thai places tend to be more upscale anyway).

The menu wasn't overly large, but it was still hard to decide what to choose. If there is one thing I learned about Thai places, though, - well its two things. First is that its hard to find something that is BAD. If in doubt, just order it spicy. The other (more important one) is that you should always, repeat always, start with the House Specials.

I thus decided to stick with the Prik-Khing Prawns, thai spicy. We also split the combo appetizer platter, and a bottle of wine. The appetizers came out first, all were decent. Nothing mindblowing, but solid and well worth the price. Our favorite was the calamari as it was coated in a unique flaky batter that was a bit better than your standard calamari.

My dish came out and it looked (while small) quite tasty. I wasn't terribly hungry this evening so I wasn't concerned. If I was hungry, I would probably knock off half a point for serving size. Prawns looked fresh and succulent, and the crisp veggies and PLENTIFUL hot peppers made for a nice looking dish.

The dish was HOT - damn hot - I think this was the spiciest thai food I have ever had. Seriously. I wasn't dying, but I was eating it VERY slowly. These guys aren't kidding when you specify Thai Spicy. Everything in the dish tasted delicious and I wouldn't hesitate to order this again.

Steve got the Pad Thai with prawns (medium spice) and I must say I was NOT impressed. He broke the House Special rule, and the quality did go down because of it. Perhaps Thai Spicy might have made it better, but compared to powerhouse pad thai at The Old Siam in Sunnyvale, this was very bland in flavor.

Oscar had the lamb dish and it was definitely a step higher than the pad thai, but not as good as the Prik-Khing prawns. I don't usually eat meat, but made an exception today and it was not totally bad, quite flavorful. Spice was muted as well, but it worked well with the dish.

Service was great, the restaurant is nice, and the food could be hit or miss. But tonight for me, it was a hit. I definitely would return.
