Id been watching playoff basketball all day and needed to get out of the apartment. I already had cereal for breakfast and lunch and was in desperate need off a hot meal. For a short 10 minute drive, I can grab the 2 slice pizza deal over at Speederia Pizzeria in San Carlos. First time visit and was looking forward to some New York style pizza.

Speederia is located on Laurel street surrounded by many restaurants and shops. The pizzeria is quite small with a number of tables to sit at. The special that I came here for is 2 slices and drink for $5. Now if you are a fan of thin slice pizza, Speederia will not disappoint.

cheese - thin layer of cheese, just enough to taste

sauce - not too tangy, no sauce spilling off the side

crust - super super thin, one of the thinnest Ive had in the bay area and it passed my crust test. I held it up and it didnt flop. I folded it in half and it cracked. The crust is the best part of the pizza.

For you thin crust fans, Speederia Pizzeria is another place to add to your pizza list. Its only going to cost you a couple of bucks and you might find yourself coming back for more, I know I will. Open daily from 11AM-9PM.

This place has posters of Ayrton Senna and Steve McQueen on the walls and serves pizza. Sounds like a place I'd want to hang out at as much as possible. (Sounds like my garage, actually). The pizza would have to be pretty bad for me not to want to come back to such a place. Well, guess what? The crust was crackly and dry and BURNT, and after three pieces I was still hungry and had to resort to going to Pizza My Heart for another slice to complete my meal. I'm not one for thin-crust pizza anyway (I mean, what's the point?), and this place just amplified all the reasons why.

My rating was bumped up a half point just because they have car magazines to read while eating. That should be worth more than a half point, but I just can't give it to Speederia.

If anyone finds a place decorated with posters of great racing drivers and great racing movies that sells good pizza (or ice cream or milkshakes or cookies or some other inherently-wonderful substance), please let me know, 'cuz Speederia doesn't fit the bill. Barring that, just bring over a pie from Zachary's. We can eat it in my garage.

A solid little pizza place specializing in thin-crust pizza by the slice, though I have seen people pick up pies they ordered ahead of time.

My daughters and I discovered this place one day while running errands, and now it's the only place they want to eat when hunger strikes in San Carlos. Can't say I mind all that much since I always enjoy a slice of their chicken-pesto. After being re-warmed in the oven the crust develops a nice crispiness I enjoy.

Selection of slices is a little biased toward carnivores. Besides the usual cheese and pep there are a few meat-slathered types, plus mushroom and the aforementioned chicken pesto. I would appreciate more veggie options.

Cheese slices are $2.50 apiece. All others are $3. Or you can get two slices and a drink for $6, a decent, quick, inexpensive meal.
