Bob's Donuts is open 24 hours a day and from what I recalled, they have no door locks. The donuts are in the front window (image 5) so unsuspecting people will stare into the eyes of a glazed donut. It only takes one look and by the time you know up, you're paying for a donut. Tables are lined up along the wall with a long counter and stools.

Sat at the counter and started on the donut mural. A mountain of donuts in the sky? I ate my glazed and it tasted fresh but the only problem was the temperature. The donuts sit in an open display case and this morning was especially cold. The doughy bread wasn't as fluffy. I had a piece of the crumbcake and it was good but rather stick to the glazed. Overall, Bob's Donuts was a 7.5 but will add .5 for staying open 24 hours.

The big draw must be the after hours bar crowd looking for anything to eat. For a 930AM visit, it was good but not enough for me to drive across the city. As for claims of being a legendary donut, today's batch was a far cry of the likes Lou's, Rolling Pin, and Stan's. I had Stan's glazed 2 weeks ago and for the same price, it's twice the size and softer.

We were in SF for MacWorld today, so decided to grab some quick breakfast before the show. Bobs was a place that people were raving about, so we gave it a try. I wasn't super hungry, but wanted to give the place a fair shake. I went with the raised glazed and the crumb donut.

The weather was super cold. I mean SUPER cold, so upon receiving and paying for the donuts I immediately dug into them. The donuts were cold. :( This kind of threw me a bit. If they were warm, I could see maybe even a half point increase. The donut was fresh, for sure, but since it was so cold outside, they just didn't last at room temperature. The glazed was ultra sweet and the dough ultra gooey. It was a good combination. A step below Stans (if warm) but still among the best in the bay area. The crumb cake was decent. The cake doesn't appeal to me as much as their raised glazed, but it was still done properly.

apple fritter

this was the first neighborhood I moved to in SF from Virginia way back in 86. I never had an apple fritter before and seeing them pull em out fresh and adding the glaze was all I could stand. It was an awesome experience.
