Escape from New York Pizza is one of my favorite pizza joints in San Francisco. Right off of Haight and 1 block up from Amoeba sits this tiny pizzaria seating around 25 people. Serving one of the best thin crust style pizzas in San Francisco.

They way I grade pizza is in this order; sauce, crust, and cheese. The sauce should be a bit tangy with a hint of basel, garlic, and oregano. I can usually tell if the cheese is cheap by the sweet taste and abundance of oil floating at the top. The crust shouldnt be soggie (uncooked) or cracker tough. I would have to give E NY Pizza sauce a 9.5 (tangy and not overwhelming), crust a 9.5 (crunchy and thin), and cheese a 9 (not too oily).

Next time your walking around Haight, grab a slice at Escape from New York Pizza and enjoy the people watching. Be sure to stop at Amoeba Records and pick up the Escape From New York coupon...its right by the metal detector. you get a free drink with a purchase of a slice (about $3). This place really deserves a 9.25....3 word review for this place - Might be Crack?

I have been here a couple of times and it is pretty good pizza. And I'll bet its better than some pizza in New York. I find it to be pretty good. If they had one in Fremont or Mountain View (2 cities I hang out in primarily) I would definitely go here a lot more often.

I would just feel bad if people ate this pizza and thought this is what NY pizza is like. Its not, really. The ingredients here are pretty good, but the mixture just isn't right. Its hard to put a finger on. As far as pizzas go, its a damn good slice, so I can't fault it too much.

One of the last pizza places that I ate at before I moved to Seattle. I got my slice at there Haight street joint.

I have to say the cheese slice rocks. I think it is on my top 5. The slice was huge and right out of the oven, pipping hot. I would like a little more cheese on it, but the taste was perfect, as was the crust. I am already craving it up here in Seattle. I guess I'll have to wait till my next visit.

These guys get 9 stars!

This review is for the Downtown RWC location.

Went here for lunch today and the pizza of the day was a pesto with tomato and chicken. I decided to go with it and found out the owner was behind the counter. He took the slice and tossed it into the warming oven behind.

The pizza was served on a flimsy paper plate, just like new york, and you grab utensils, napkins, etc yourself on the side. The sice ran short of $4 and is a pretty good size.

There was a pool of oil from the pesto sauce on the pizza but i didn't mind. The pesto, tomato and chicken melted together in perfect harmony, it tasted better then i thought it would the crust thin, and the bottom crispy. This is good pizza, especially for only being open for a week or so.

If you're in the area and want a quick bite, this is definitely recommended.
