After aimlessly walking all over Fillmore Street looking for a place to eat, we finally decided to try Extreme Pizza. Never tried this place, never heard of it...perfect reason to try it. Extreme Pizza is a small pizzeria catering mostly to pickup orders and delivery. We normally dont review chain pizza places but this restaurant doesnt even belong in the same category as Pizza Hut or Dominos.

We kind of sold out and got a traditional pizza - "Railroad Grade". If you check out the menu, you'll see what I'm talking about; Mr. Pestato Head, Holy Cow, or Peace In The Middle East. Other than that, the pizza was dammmm good.

Crust - Awesome...very thin and firm. You can fold a slice and it nicely cracks down the center. The last time I've had a crust like this is from those fancy pizza restaurants. If you're into a thicker crust, you can order that too. Score = 10

Sauce - Great, not too runny just enough for the pizza. Score = 9.

Cheese - 2 types of cheeses; Cheddar and Mozzerella? I hate when pizza places put so much cheese you cant even taste the crust or sauce..not the case here, Extreme Pizza has a good balance. Score = 8.5.

Toppings - I was disappointed with 1 of the toppings..particularly the sausage. Small round pieces of meat with little taste. Maybe they ran out of the good stuff or it was old? Score = 8.

Since I'm waiting patiently for them to open up a restaurant in my neighborhood, I'll have to settle for eating Extreme Pizza everytime I see a concert at the Fillmore.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 6/19/2005 - 8 Rating: Made a return visit to Extreme Pizza the other night. Ordered the same Railroad Grade style pizza. I honestly believe that my rating on my 1st visit was heavily impaired by alcohol. I think their pizza is excellent when you compare it to other pizza chains but does not hold its own against the heavy weight pizza places like Zacharys, Arinell, Cheeseboard, Goat Hill, etc...

I have to say that Extreme Pizza was one of the better slices I have had in San Francisco. Located near the Fillmore, it made for a great pre-concert meal. The menu was pretty fun, with unique names for the various combinations of toppings. We tried the Railroad Grade pizza and it was delicious! The thin crust was just the right thickness to be crispy on the outside but still have some bread in the middle. It was light on the sauce, but I dont like sauce so that was fine by me. I thought the cheese was the highlight of the pizza - not too stringy but did not break right away either.

The restaurant was small and had just a few tables. The eating area was clean and well stocked with napkins and condiments. The menu had a good variety of toppings and the pizza was ready quickly, though a little pricey. Bottom line - I would go back in a heartbeat.
