The jatbar burger quest continues at Flippers in Hayes Valley, San Francisco. I probably wouldnt have stopped by until I spotted an open parking spot. Parking around Hayes can be a hassle so Id recommend taking a cab or using Muni. I remember hearing about Flippers years ago but never had the opportunity to try it until today.

I was early before the lunch rush which meant I had my choice of any table. I choose to sit outside and enjoy the sun with scattered clouds. It was quite nice and even better knowing I was going to be eating in 10 minutes.

I ordered the regular flipper burger cooked medium. The burger plate came with huge order of steak fries, green salad, and burger served open faced with a slice of cheddar and swiss. The semi-crumbly patties are a half pound of quality chuck steak. Very lean tasting but lacking spices..needed salt or pepper or something? Meat wasnt greasy and did not leak through the buns. The buns were lightly toasted and fresh tasting as were the veggies.

Flippers states they serve gourmet burgers and I will agree 100% with them. The burger meal is about $10 but its almost large enough to share with another person. I cant say I would drive all the way up from the Peninsula to eat here. Parking can be a pain but if Im ever in the area again and a parking spot opens up, I wont have any doubts on ordering a delicious burger.

I ended up at the Flipper's in Montclair Village (Oakland) and had the Clipper Flipper - essentially a California insipired burger complete with half an avacado and bacon.

The burger itself was not too impressive, but I would not call it awful either. It was quite good and I'd impress myself if I were to put it together myself. Fresh and good serving temp.

The salad was run of the mill, nothing fancy just greens a bit of dressing.

Fries - This is where Flipper's excells, I thought they were excellent. Big perfectly fried golden brown steak cut fries. A little dip in ketcheup is all they need.

I forgot what the meal cost, probably $10-12 with a drink. I'd go again if I was around and felt like a burger. I also hear their milkshakes are good.

Arkay ate...

Never again

With all the great burgers available in SF, I would not spend time or money on Flippers. The burgers are average, but the rats running across the patio makes this a "no go" in my book.
