Goat Hill Pizza has earned my first jatbar 10 rating! I didnt think it was possible but the first slice was pure perfection.

We arrived just before the lunch rush and ordered the slice special; 1 slice 2 toppings with soup/salad for $4.95. Salad was nothing out of the ordinary..its frickin romaine with dressing. Soup..holy goat crap...their Clam Chowder is better than the stuff I've had at fancy seafood steakhouses!! It was f*cking tasty...sorry for the language but Im getting excited thinking about it.

Now lets analyze this slice of heaven

Crust - Perfect... Very firm and has an awesome sour aftertaste. I think this is my first time trying sourdough crust, I love it.

Sauce - Perfect... tangy and rich with flavor

Cheese - Awesome... gourmet stuff? not oily, not too much, just the right amount

Toppings - They use real sausage that you find in Italian dishes. Top Notch!!!

I have no complaints or suggestions for Goat Hill Pizza. I waited over 2 weeks to write this review. I'm stil thinking about how great that slice was. To give you an idea on how serious I am about slice pizza Friday, we compared Goat Hill Pizza to 5 other pizzas places (Nizarios, Mythic, Arinell, Slice of the Ave, and Cheeseboard Pizza) in 1 day. Goat Hill came out on top against the 5 and 40+ other places I've had in the bay area since I've lived here. It is currently MY FAVORITE PIZZA place. Keep up the excellent job...btw...Mondays 5-10pm for $8.95, all you can eat pizza.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 8/16/2004 - 8.5 Rating: Made a return visit last Saturday 8-14-04. I still love Goat Hill but the pizza was not the 10 caliber that I had last time. My slices were slightly burned and service was below average. I called to place an order twice and was put on hold for way too long, I decided to eat there and must have stood there for a good 3-4 minutes before being acknowledge. Keep in mind, it wasnt even busy. They were too busy watching the Giants game. Oh well, I still return to Goat Hill in hopes of reliving that blissful pizza experience.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 9/29/2004 - 9 Rating: Today I got the special combination and am glad to annouce it was better than my last experience. Im beginning to think the 1st visit was a fluke. Dont get me wrong, Goat Hill Pizza is an excellent pizza place. Their toppings are top-notch (especially the sausage). If you are in the Potrero Hill area, be sure to pay a visit to Goat Hill.

Well, I tried Goat Hill for lunch today. I arrived just after 11:30 when they opened. I found parking fairly easily on the street around the corner so was pleased from the get-go. I walk in and I can see why Jason and others like it. Its very comfortable inside and almost homey. Looks like a good place to hangout for a few hours reading or just watching the day go by. But I wasn't here for that, I want the pizza! I am immediately seated and shown the menu. The service was great the whole time I was there.

I decided to go with the slice special. They had no clam chowder so I went with the corn chowder soup and the cheese slice. The soup came quickly and wasn't too hot or too cold, was just right. It was VERY tasty, must have been homemade. I would return for this alone. The pizza took a little longer to arrive and when it did, it was scalding. So I had to let it sit a few minutes cooling off.

So how was the pizza? Well if I was just judging this place on the pizza alone and not the whole package I would give the pizza an 8. The crust tasted fresh and sourdoughy but it was just not my thing. I am more into the traditional new york style and this just didn't taste right to me. It was browned on the bottom but not burnt. The sauce was killer. It had a lot of flavor and tasted very fresh. The cheese was just alright. It wasn't oily which was good, but it lacked any real flavor. They put a lot of spices on top and that increased the flavor but I really couldn't taste as much of the cheese as I'd hoped. All in all, if this place was around the corner I would go a lot, but since its not, I probably won't return or will go rarely. Its not bad though. If you find yourself in the neighborhood, I would highly recommend you stopping in.
