This review can be considered half-ass since I didn't even try the famous bagels, it is called House of Bagels for a reason. I guess the thing that caught my eye was the NY Deli sandwich sign. I ordered the pastrami sandwich on rye. At nearly $10 and add $2 for the drink, it was kinda an expensive lunch.

I'm no expert when it comes to NY Deli as I've only been to NYC 1 time and I'm pretty much judging all sandwiches against Katz Deli or delis that slice pastrami off brisket. Meat needs to be piled high, really high. I only use spicy mustard and pastrami served warm.

House of Bagels doesn't stack the meat high but they do toast a very good rye bread. Swiss was overwhelming as you can see in the pictures as it smothered the peppery meat. Meat was on the lean side and would have preferred more fat to it.

Overall it was ok. Much better than any chain sandwich shops but I don't think I would call this pastrami mind blowing or anything. I'd be willing to try another sandwich item off the menu if I was in the area but considering I live in Burlingame, I have to stick to my local favorites.
