House of Prime Rib isn't exactly the hole in the wall type of establishment you love finding on jatbar. For almost 60 years, House of Prime Rib has been serving the roast to locals and visitors around the world. It's probably one of the most famous steak houses in the bay area. You've probably made the visit or known somebody who's eaten here. About 90% of the time you'll hear the same story over and again. It's the best prime rib dinner you can get in town. For my 8 visits or so, I can't show enough praise for this fine establishment.

I should have written this review weeks ago and can't possibly remember everything so I'm going to cheat my way through it with bullet points.

- open during dinner time 7 days a week. For best results in landing a table, just call in for a reservation. Holiday season, try calling 1-2 weeks in advance.

- offers 5 types of cuts. For best value, go for the King Henry VIII Cut. It's only $2-3 more than House of Prime Rib Cut and it's significantly larger. Portion sizes are generous so don't load up on the great tasting bread. I don't know the exact rules but if you finish you're plate and still hungry, they WILL OFFER you a courtesy slice. I am not kidding, I've done it twice but not on tonight's visit, I was completely stuffed.

- meat is dry aged for 21 days and some of the most tender and moist meat you'll ever have. Seasoning is on the outer edges of the roast and if you're lucky, you'll receive an end cut. Au jois is carefully ladled over the freshly cut meat and with each bite you'll seem to enjoy every last mouth watering morsels. I've savored dozens of steak houses and ordered prime rib and I hard to think of any place that tops House of Prime Rib. The biggest competition I can think of is Tam-O-Shanter (Lawrys) in Glendale.

- horseradish comes in varied temperatures, medium to wow o wow the fumes are coming out my nose zomg I need to place more on my steak.

- They offer fresh fish and I'm sure it's wonderful and everything but you'd be doing yourself a disservice by ordering fish in a steak house.

- my only complaint is the salad. The dressing and lettuce aren't so bad, it's the fact they put a half gallon of dressing into it. I can't stand when the salad is swimming in dressing, I'm grossed out. Other people love, I can't stand it.

- sides include mashed potatoes or baked potato, yorkshire pudding, and creamed spinach. I love the smokey creamed spinach with the yorkshire pudding coming in a close second. Baked potatoes look like mini footballs, don't even try to finish it, save room for the prime rib.

- service is always stellar and never ran into any problems. In fact, our dinner ran just short of 3 hours and never were we rushed or given hints to give up our tables on a busy weekend night.

For the price, service, atmosphere, and more importantly the food, it's one of the best values San Francisco has to offer. If you love to eat meat and want to experience experience prime rib at it's finest, look no further and enjoy House of Prime Rib.

If I rate with the salad, HOPR rates a 9.5.

If I skip the salad, HOPR a 10.

Plate of bones!

Not on the menu but you can ask for me. The meat is sweetest by the bone. For the same price, you get a plate of about 4 rib bones and it is stellar!
