I celebrated with the Italian soccer team by heading out to Marco Polo Italian Ice Cream. I had just finished a large burger at Bullshead restaurant earlier but had enough room for a small scoop of gelato.

The gelateria is a small shop with 20 or so flavors on the menu. Scoop prices start at ~$2 and upwards to $9 pint for exotic flavors (cash only). They have a nice selection of asian flavors like mint tea, lychee, jackfruit, red bean, and even DURIAN! Hell yeah, I had to try it. I asked for a sample of durian and hoped I wouldn't barf my lunch up. The smell is aromatic in a stinky way. I never would have thought this overpowering fragrant fruit would taste surprisingly good. The flavor is very distinct and doesn't taste like anything I've had before. It's too hard to describe and would only recommend trying it for yourself. Oh gawd, the aftertaste lasts forever so you better bring mouthwash.

I'm not bold enough to dedicate an entire scoop to durian but saw an interesting flavor called Arcobaleno. It's a mix of Chocolate, Almond, Pistachio, and Vanilla. He placed a rather small scoop in my cup and when he handed it to me, heavier than I expected. Much more dense than ice cream so a small serving should be good enough for an adult.

I've had gelato in Italy and Marco Polo Ice Cream comes pretty close. It's super smooth and very impressed with the complex flavors. There would be spoonfuls where I would have chocolate and pistachio while others would be an almond vanila chocolate mix. Sooooo good. I think I have found my new favorite flavor but does this exist at other ice cream shops. Very doubtful so it looks like I'll have to be coming back to Marco Polo. You won't be disappointed...trust me.
