It's no surprise to SF locals that Mitchell's Ice Cream has been scooping some of the best ice cream in the bay area. For all the years I've lived here, it's hard to believe it's taken me this long to visit. I guess I was always scared of the parking situation in the Mission District. We arrived late and found parking about a block away. I guess the trick is to park behind Mitchell's Ice Cream, have your friend run in and order the ice cream while you wait in the car or park illegally.

It was 10:30 and the line was out the door, people outside, people inside, people parking, people everywhere....they get so busy they had to resort to using ticketed numbers they call out. We must have waited 10 minutes for our number. It's a good thing they had 4+ people working behind the counter or I would have crawled through the window to help myself. Ok I'm lying, there's no way I can fit through the serving window. Anyways, with all the exotic tropical flavors to choose from, I went with a boring Toasted Almond on a waffle cone.

Toasted Almond was smooth, sweet, and just above the freezing point making it an easy dessert to eat. Tasted homemade to me but then again, I love 99% of ice creams. Very creamy, about as good as Fentons Creamery but Fentons edges out Mitchell's because of the fudge and seating environment. The ice cream had no ice bite and waffle cone was crunchy. There's nothing to complain about on this ice cream. It's excellent stuff.

I like Mitchell's Ice Cream and can't believe how many people were there 30 minutes before closing. I can go on and on how wonderful the ice cream is, but it would get me depressed just thinking how badly I want a scoop right now. Mitchell's Ice Cream 4ever and 4every1.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 8/11/2007 - 9.5 Rating: I'm an idiot and should re-read my reviews. I was standing in line for a couple of minutes without grabbing a ticket. Valuable ice cream minutes wasted!!! I vowed to try a more exotic flavor and saw Lucuma. Ever since I came back from Peru, I've been looking all over for this flavor. It's currently my super-bestest-flavor in the whole wide world overtaking my childhood fave Pistachio. The color is orange and has small pieces of Lucuma fruit in it. It's hard for me to describe the flavor but I'd say butterscotch with hint of Oxycontin? Parking still sucks, lines are still long, far from my house yet I get happy thinking about their ice cream. TEH SHIZZO!!

All flavors of ice cream

Born & raised in SF, I love Mitchell's Ice Cream. There's always something special about going there. You'll always find a line out the door, no matter what time of day you go. My fav being their coffee ice cream.
