Before any show at the Fillmore, its customary to eat before the concert. There are a number of restaurants on Fillmore which becomes problematic in choosing just one. You gotta love having a selection :) We were going to Popeyes (a guilty pleasure for me, I love fried chicken), then it was A Taste of Thai, but we ended up at Mozzarella di Bufala. I had huge expectations for Mozzarella di Bufala once I found out they had Brazilian food on their menu. I had to skip the pizza and go straight to Feijoada Completa. I was excited for a whopping 2 minutes...waitor came back and told me they were out...it was such a letdown...so close but so far. My brain melted at that point and ordered the Churrasco Grelhado.

Churrasco Grelhado - Grilled beef with rice, red beans, french fries and white onion tomato salad. Rice was ok, red beans were good, fries were awesome, and the whilte tomato salad was basically salsa with vinegar...still tasty though. It was late in the night so my expectations had dropped for their dining dishes. Last but not least was the steak...if I had to make a couple of guesses, the cut had to be either a flank or chuck. I ordered medium and it came out well down. It was chewy beyond belief, my jaws were getting a workout and nearly numb by the end of the dining experience. I wouldnt recommend ordering this plate again.

I did try a tiny bite of their pizza and thought it was just ok. Cheese tasted a little bit different, maybe it has something to do with the top secret mozzarella. I dont recall much tomato sauce on the pizza either.

Im sure this place will rank much higher when I make the return visit for their Feijoada Completa or the Brazilian buffet. For right now, Mozzarella di Bufula crawls in with a 7.

We were headed to the Old 97's concert(who I would describe as a rock band, but I've since learned is totally country...alas, that's a discussion for a different website) at the Fillmore and stepped in to Mozzarella di Bufala for some food first. I had a hankering for pizza and boy did it deliver. This place was a solid 9.5. I thought it was absolutely fabulous pizza!

I ordered by the slice, so I got 2 peices of pepperoni and mushroom. First, the peices are ridiculously huge! If I had it to do over again, I'd only get one. As it was, I stuffed myself because the pizza was so good. The crust was devine. It was crunchy and not buttery, and the end part was soft in the middle - soooo good! If you've read my previous pizza reviews, you'll know that I hate sauce. I'm not sure this pizza had any on it. Not once did I have to scrape off some of the nasty red stuff that drenches so many pizzas in order to eat the next bite free of essence de tomato - wonderful! The toppings were cooked perfectly. The pepperoni was crunchy and there was nary a pool of grease to be found. The mushrooms were fresh and plentiful and I really liked the cheese. It was more mild than your standard pizza, but still had that satisfying stringyness.

I'm not usually that discerning with pizza. Normally it tastes pretty good and that's all I notice, but from my first bite at this place, my mouth was alive with flavor and pure joy was pumping through my veins. Also, worth noting were the delectibleness of Jason's fries. Fries to me are so ubiquitos, that when you take a bite and say to yourself Wow...that's a good fry!, it's a noteworthy event. Those were definitely good fries.

I'm going back to the Fillmore for Wilco in a few weeks, and I'm going to lobby for another visit to Mozzarella di Bufala. My mouth is watering just thinking about it...
