I was walking around Richmond District a couple of weeks back snapping pictures. I was strolling along Clement Street and bumped into Schubert's Bakery. Before I was writing reviews on jatbar, I used to come here for the Tiramisu (image 5). I had remembered the bakery items being of high quality and seeing it wasn't on jatbar, I thought I'd review one of my favorite bakeries.

Let's start with parking situation, it's not the greatest but still better than other districts in San Francisco. Just keep driving around the block and a spot usually opens up.

The signs say this bakery has been in business since 1911 which makes this bakery one of the oldest on jatbar. After reading their history profile online, looks like they've gone through 4 generations of owners and been on Clement Street since the 1940's. They continue to carry original favorites like Neopolitan and Pineapple delight.

There wasn't too many people eating inside the the foot traffic was steady. With plenty of pretty girls behind the counter to help you out, ordering is a sweet pleasure. I picked up the Tiramisu (image 5) and took the obligatory photos. If you're on a diet, you might want to try something else as this dessert is a high caloric fat heart attack waiting to happen.

The thin layer of sponge cake is moist and would be airy enough to float away if it wasn't for the heavy layers of sweet cream. There's layer upon layer of italian cream cheese (mascarpone), chocolate, and coffee liquor. This little piece of dessert must be pushing 800-1000 calories and to bring it to the next level, they top it off with a mix of regular and white chocolate shavings. Schubert's tiramisu is incredibly rich yet well balanced in the sugar department. My gums weren't aching and required only 1 glass of water. For lover's of Tiramisu, don't miss this one.

I also picked up a strawberry cheescake (image 6). I would write a review on this one but gave it away as a gift. My friends tell me it was an amazing cheesecake.

Arguing between 9 and 9.5 is ridiculous, either way, you're getting outstanding food. I'm leaning towards the 9 since parking can be pain and prices are a bit higher. From the FAQs, Schubert's Bakery say their Opera Cake cannot be beat. Bold words and I guess I'll have to make another return visit, oh poor me.
