Taqueria Cancun is a favorite taqueria among locals and club goers in the Mission District. This restaurant has 3 things going for them, food is relatively cheap, its open very late, and food is quite respectable. I was doing the carnitas taste test today...going head to head was Taqueria Cancun vs La Taqueria. I had heard both places serve a mean carnitas. Since Im a carnitas type of guy, Id be happy to accept the challenge.

Theres absolutely no way I was going to eat an entire burrito so I stuck with plain tacos with no cheese, sour cream, or guacamole. I had walked 7 blocks to a somewhat disappointing conversation...We dont have carnitas tacos, said the guy behind the counter.

Great...there goes my taste test. What the heck? No carnitas, I had to settle with Al Pastor (marniated pork) fine by me, I will eat it. It was very busy inside Taqueria Cancun but my wait was short. They finally called my order as I waited next to the blarring jukebox.

Taco breakdown

Tortillas - 2 corn tortillas, small size, about your standard taste for legit taqueria joints. Good stuff no complaints to make here

Salsa - spicey, has a nice kick to it, good mix of onions and celantro

Al Pastor - full of flavor, meat cut very small, I prefer a bit larger, I know I b*tch about this all the time but when you cut the meat too small it picks up a lot of the grease from the grill...meaning you are going to be eating oil fat mixtures from who knows when

I need to come back to Taqueria Cancun to try one of their burritos. With 3 locations in San Francisco, be sure to give them a try.

Burrito Mojado

I've been going to this place for years. Their Burrito Mojado is by far the best I've had out of all the Burrito restaurants. I love the sauce and cheese they throw on top of the burrito. And people have started catching on to this type of burrit
