Today must be my lucky day to score parking in the Mission District right across the street from Tartine Bakery. This was a first time visit for me and I must be blind but I dont see any signs stating the name of the bakery anywhere on the outside? For late afternoon, there were a lot of people inside and not sure how the seating works. Some of the tables had letters on them and not sure if they were for reservations? Ordering is done with pastries and desserts on the left side and coffees and whatevers on the right side.

The lady behind the counter was super nice and helped me get a coppercake, walnut butter cookies, and coconut macaroons. I dont recall what the price was since I scammed my friend to pay for it...forgot my wallet in the car trick. I would have ordered one of their sandwiches but we had returned from an excellent lunch at Canteen.

walnut butter cookies - its hard for me to hate any cookies, tasted fresh, topped with large sugar granules, I like it.

macaroons - golden brown on the outside and chewy on the inside. I swear it had a slight lemon flavor to it but who knows. It was ok and can say Ive had much better with those packaged ones at Cost Plus. I know it doesnt make sense for a package macaroon to taste better than an organic freshly baked good but thats just my opinion.

coppercake - this is an interesting dessert. with 2 slices of a rich chocolate between the layers of cake and an undetermined spice. Its not your typical sweet chocolate cake as this one has some sort of a red pepper spice to it? I dont know what it is but the aftertaste is something unique. Never had anything like this before.

Ive been to many french cafe in France and Tartine Bakery knows how to capture the european bakery/cafe atmosphere. With a number of outdoor tables on the sunnyside of the cafe, its easy to enjoy an espresso with a decadent dessert. Or maybe you'd rather eat inside and talk about the latest book you've read with one of your friends over a gourmet sandwich. Tartine Bakery is probably one of the stars in the Mission District. For people who live outside of San Francisco, parking will be tough so be prepared.
