I'm not sure how accurate my car's thermometer is but it was flippin hot today. One of the hottest days on jatbar records and in keeping up with the heat, a couple of the guys at work headed out to All Star BBQ in San Jose. Off Curtner and Lincoln, this hole in the wall BBQ stand has limited parking so your best bet is park on the next street over, Tranquette Ave.

The BBQ shack is tiny with a couple of scattered tables. Decorations are sports inspired and a large LCD tv sits atop the drink cooler. Drink selections are lacking with Shasta and bottled water as your only choices. All Star BBQ needs to visit Costco.

I checked out their online menu at their web site and immediately knew what I wanted, Tri-Tip dinner with Collard Greens and Baked Beans. With a bottled water, the total came out to $14. They don't accept ATM/Credit cards so bring cash.

We took a table next to the large fan. The restaurant is hot as an oven and one of the employees was nice enough to point another fan towards us. The food didn't take long to be delivered and the portions are huge.

As you can see in picture #11, it's a lot of meat, 1lb of it. I normally see the long narrow strips but today's cut were mixed end pieces as well. I didn't notice a smoke ring but the meat still had a strong smokey flavor. Meat was semi-tender with my biggest complaint with the utensils. They were flimsy forks that would bend and nearly useless in getting a grip on the meat. Overall, good stuff.

The bbq sauce is homemade with a sweet yet spicy flavor. Spicier than other BBQ houses and hot enough to leave mild heat in your mouth. It was good but I like my sauce less sweet.

Beans were served extremely hot (temperature wise), I had to wait quite awhile for them to cool. On the sweet side with bits of beef in it. Pretty enjoyable.

Collard greens were a miss for me. They were steamed and earthy taste was too much for me. It didn't have much of a pork flavoring or smokey taste.

All Star BBQ serves good barbecue. Their sauce has some kicking heat with slight sweet tooth glaze. Portion sizes are large and prices moderate. Service was excellent and everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. Check out All Star BBQ for home style cooking.
