BCC Enterprises came in as a wishlist item and we are happy to annouce it was a good recommendation. BCC doesnt look like your standard restaurant, it looks like a converted mechanics garage with picnic tables. That didnt scare us, jatbar is always up to the challenge or trying new places and food. Its fairly easy to find this place, if you are going south on the 101, exit Oakland Ave in San Jose, make a left, and drive about 1 mile, it will be on our left side.
For todays lunch, I had the tri-tip, pork ribs, and sausage. Each meal comes with beans, potato salad, and 2 slices of white or wheat bread. The meat had a pleasant smokey flavor. Tri-tip was my favorite and would love to try this tri-tip on a french roll. Sausage was very spicey. Pork ribs were good too. I had no complaints with any of the meats.
Unfortunately I was not a fan of the beans. It reminded me of the Heinz pork and beans but a bit sweeter. I took 2 bites and left the rest for the trash. White bread was a nice touch to this urban picnic bbq.
I dont eat barbeque much but I would have to say my 1st choice for barbeque in the bay area would be BCC Enterprises.

BCC Enterprises was quite a find, actually submitted to us via a wishlist item. I must say I am impressed. This place looked legit the instant we spotted it. Not a sign to be found anywhere, totally run down hobo-shack looking. Awesome. BCC stands for Bethesda Community Church but there was not a lot of pro-church stuff around etc, which was nice. They knew you came here for food and thats what you were gonna get.
The food reminds me a lot of Carmen's in Fremont, sans the spiciness. I ordered the Hot Link and Ribs combo meal (which also included potato salad, beans, and bread). The cost was $8 and the food was premade (assembly line here) and arrived to you immediately. Drinks were available through a soda machine at $1 for can , $1.25 for bottle.
The seating is outside or inside. We opted for outside where we could enjoy the sun and shade and smell the pungent barbecue smell outside. Smelled like victory.
The ribs and links tasted just like something you would barbecue yourself with a really good firepit and some secret sauce. It was cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. I couldn't finish all my meat (after all it was complete meat meltdown). The potato salad was very good and the beans were sweeter than the standard out-of-the-can stuff. So if I wanted to, I could survive on those two items quite easily and avoid meat. The hot links were warm, not overly so, maybe a medium spiciness at Carmens.
It would have been nice to have it a bit spicier like Carmens, but at least this stuff is cooked outside in big 55 gallon drums so it gets some kudos for that.

I was excited about BCC Enterprises when we first pulled up. Where I come from, the more run down the BBQ shack, the better the food. Walking to the door through the wonderful aroma of meat in the smoker made me very optimistic about my lunch which pretty much lived up to my expectations.
I ordered a lunch special that came with one sausage link, one rib and a peice of chicken. The chicken was excellent. In fact, I ended up trading someone my sausage for their chicken. The sausage was too spicey for me, but I'm sure it was tasty for those who like to have their mouth on fire. The rib was really good. It had a lot of meat and it wasn't too fatty. I found the potato salad up to snuff and was happy to receive 2 slices of bread with my plate.
My complaints were these: if I had to guess, I'd say the beans were VanCamps pork and beans straight out of the can. Very dissappointing. Also, there was no condiment bar - I like to have pickles with my BBQ. The sauce was just okay, and to be honest...well, it's just not BBQ without a big glass of iced tea.
I'm sure I have different standards from you Bay Area natives, but BCC Enterprises was one of the more satisfactory meat hocking establishments I've encountered in my California existence. It's no match for my favorite places from back home, but I'd go back (though I might take my own tea and pickles).
Oh, and a tip for those thinking of trying this place - go on a Wednesday. They had signs for both Sweet Potato Pie and Peach Cobbler for dessert, but when I asked about it, I was told the woman brings in the goods on Wednesday. Mmmm...sweet potato pie and peach cobbler! |

I smelled this place from at least a block away. I should have asked what they used for their fire. I'd assume hickory or mesquite. I was running an errand in this area, and the scent of real bbq was too alluring to pass up. I am a bit of a grill jockey myself and am somewhat discriminating and usually a little apprehensive about the quality and authenticity of bbq. As well as the aroma, the novelty of being adjacent to a trailer park was a little quircky-in a way i like. definately a no frills joint with plastic utensils, no real service to speak of. i felt like i was in the south when i was here. the guy running the place was able to answer my serious barbeque questions and seemed like he knew his way around barbeque. This place serves real barbeque. They offer chicken, spareribs, tri-tip, pulled pork, and various other items such as hotlinks and the like. I ordered a combo cosisting of one sparerib, a chicken leg, and some tri-tip, figuring this would be a good sampling of what they have to offer. i was not dissapointed. the sauce was not special, but not bad. the beans were very sweet, and really not my style at all. the potato salad was a notch above the beans, but not special either. The meats i had, while not the best bbq in the world, were a clear cut above what most restauraunts try to pass off as bbq. they offer pulled pork, but didn't seem to feature it and didn't seem to offer brisket. this might be actually a good sign, because true brisket, and pulled pork as well, are not that easy to serve correctly.
the meats all were very tender and full of flavor. my combo was about $8. not too bad.
i think they might only be open for lunch. and i saw a vaccation schedule which listed closed dates (when the boss is out of town, this place cannot run!)
this was a really lucky find, i highly reccomend trying it partly for the food and partly for the novel atmosphere.
