We hit plenty of good restaurants this week and wanted to end it off with a high note at the Blue Mango. It had been recommended by a friend of mine was told they had a decent selection of veggie plates for Terry. We wanted to beat the lunch rush and got there before noon.

The interior of Blue Mango has the eye catching thai art and blue blue and more blue colored items. From tableclothes, paint, peacock, you name it and it was probably blue. Menu featured some exotic looking dishes with pictures. They even give you a spicy chart 1-10, and a 15(thai hot) if you dare. My last experience with thai hot was not enjoyable so I went with a 10. To start off the meal, I ordered Thai Toast and the Spicy Waterfall Beef.

Thai Toast - deep fried toast with pork and prawns. When I think of deep fried bread, I think donuts, so if I like donuts, I will like the thai toast, right? It was good but I could barely taste the shrimp but there was plenty of pork. See picture #6

Soup - i dont know what its called but its one of the best thai soups Ive had.

Waterfall Beef - I asked for the 10 and they gave me a scorcher. There was sooo many seeds and pepper skins, it left my mouth burning sometime afterwards. Refreshing flavors eminating from celantro, bermuda onions, mint?, green onions, and of course thai peppers. The beef slices were cut too tiny and my biggest complaint was the tempurature of the beef. It was cold and it wasnt the ones laying on top of the lettuce. I should have returned it to reheat it but I was too hungry.

Blue Mango has excellent food and serves beautiful presentations. So why did I give them an 8? My food was almost cold like it had been sitting on the counter for eternity. If the food is suppose to be served semi-cold, they should note it in the menu. I like my food served hot and steaming. Another complaint was the time it took to get our food. It must have took 30+ minutes to get our main course. If just seemed we were constantly waiting for something, whether it was to order, to get our food, or to get the check? Our waitress was SUPER NICE but I wouldnt complain this much if it were that busy. We were the 2nd group in the entire restaurant and people who came after us were leaving 10 minutes before us. We are on tight lunch schedule and need to get back to work.

Id definitely come back to Blue Mango for the food but keep in mind, if the service is the same, I wont be back. If the service is exceptional I would raise my score to a 9.

I had no preconceptions going into Blue Mango. Jason said it was good so we went. We got there and it was kind of cool looking but it wasn't until I saw the menu that I started getting excited. Usually I will look at a Thai menu and see maybe 1 or 2 things that sound good. On the Blue Mango menu I was looking at item after item and each was sounding better than the previous.

I eventually settled on the Three Flavors Basa Fillet and a Thai Ice Tea. Then I waited. It seemed to take awhile to be served. Maybe they thought we were unemployed or something and had all the time in the world. But tons of people that came after us got their food and were eating.

Anyway, I bite into the Fillet and its AMAZING. Its like a crispy fish n chips (without the batter) and inside is super fresh. The sauce they put on top (I opted for a level 10) was spicy, but not too bad. Maybe a nuclear on the University Chicken scale. I went with the brown rice, and it was done well, with plenty of good flavor. No complaints. The salad dressing on the salad that was included was equally flavorful. A hint of lemon perhaps? It was highly addictive. The tofu soup was equally fresh and interesting. It was a steep $9.50 for the dish, but I can honestly say I got a GREAT deal on my meal. It tasted like $15+ minimum.

They leave a separate dessert menu (with pictures) on the table while you are waiting interminably for their slow wait-staff. The ploy worked and I went with the fried bananas for dessert. OMG this stuff is amazing. The ice cream that came with it was a pineapple-coconut flavor that took me back to many vacations in Hawaii. The bananas themselves were covered in coconut and deep fried. The banana inside as still quite juicy and flavorful. The goods were sealed in beautifully.

All in all, it wasn't the cheapest lunch, definitely wasn't the quickest lunch, but all in all, it is one of the best-tasting I have done for Jatbar. I wouldn't hesitate to add another half point if the server was quicker.

I went here when they just opened and spammed ads through the metro and wave publications.

We ordered pretty standard thai dishes and to be short everything came out horrible.

Yes...there were "critters" in my salad, black specs of something everywhere. I was given a replacement salad and it again had "critters". I did not touch it. The food from what I remember is passable, nothing extraordinary and nothing bad, just the fact that there were "critters" in my salad then we later saw "brown tic-tacs" along the wall.

I have never gone back. Looks like they have cleaned up their act though.
