We had some ramen over at Do-Henkotsu and wanted to continue the japanese experience at Clover Bakery and Cafe. Located a couple of doors down, this baker/cafe has a unique selection of goodies that I havent ever seen. Im not too familiar with japanese cafe goods and was surprised to see some odd bread combos. From chow mein sandwich to spaghetti in the bread to the deep fried hot dog (check out the pics).

Oh there's no way Im leaving this place without trying the hot dog. I consider myself a die hard hot dog eater and had to try it. It looked liked a corn dog with a chicken katsu type batter...breaded donut batter without the sugar? The dog wasnt an all beef dog nor did it had a snap to it. It was probably a chicken/beef whatever mix. It was ok but I was more excited just to try it. I wouldnt order it again considering there's so many other unique items to try.

I think the real draw here beside regular pastry goods are the sandwiches. I have to return and try the crab and roe sandwich. You need to come check it out for yourselves if you to try authentic japanese snack sandwiches. I verified the sandwiches with my co-worker Adam. He lived in Japan for awhile and said the Croquette burger was the thing to try. Im still a little skeptical on the corn and mayo sandwich, it just doesnt sound appealing to me. I wont know until I try.

I like Bakeries as much as the next guy and was happy to find one next to Do-Henkotsu. It was a much needed dessert break after the large bowl of Ramen.

Its a Japanese bakery and cafe so of course most of the items you will find cater to Japanese tastes. Which is fine by me. Forgive me for not remembering the names, but I samples 2 items and both were delicious. One was a Malasada-like (sugar donut) of a thing with bean paste inside. Very sweet on the outside, mildly sweet on the inside. It was good. Even better was the custard one. It was a similar sugar dough ball with custard inside, cut open so the custard was busting out. Quite good indeed!

If you're up for a light dessert and driving by, I would not hesitate to stop by Clover for a sweet treat.

This bakery has its unusual pastries like spaghetti bread or curry bread, but that's what makes it special. For the price you can sample most everything without putting much dent into your wallet. Everything in there is great as a snack, lunch, dessert or to satisfy whatever munchies you have. It's a great 'walk around and mindlessly munch' item.

My favorites are the curry, ham and cheese, hot dog and chocolate breads. My least favorite must've been the croquette burger ONLY because the sauce was a little too sweet and sour, but the croquette was good. The only thing I wish was that it was served warm/hot, but you can't have everything. Be adventurous with your selections. I would go here more often if it wasn't so far from home.
