A couple of blocks away from Top Dog sits our 2nd review of the day, Flores Bakery and Deli. I had seen this bakery on one of my visits to Super Taqueria. Parking is limited to the painted green curbs (I think they are 30 mins?). The sign says deli and I want to say I saw a sign for tamales, but I'll need one of you guys to confirm.

The pastry section is in the back and there's a good selection of sweets. If you're wondering how the ordering process works, they have plastic trays with paper tissues. Place the goodies on the tray and bring it back to the counter. I wanted to get more of the traditional mexican pastries but got sidetracked on raspberry roll, cinnamon cookie, and butter cookie.

raspberry roll - pretty awesome, wasn't oily or too sweet, it was generous slice with raspberry jam. Less than a buck, what a flippin steal!

cinnamon cookie - I think this cost 10 cents and worth about 50 cents. Tasted like a cinnamon flour sugar mix under a quick baking.

butter cookie - another cookie that's priced super cheap and would put a smile on any danish person.

Terry ate the sweet bread turtle in image 9. I had one of the legs and it was fun to eat. I really enjoyed the butter cookie and raspberry roll and how can you beat the rock bottom prices??? Either they made a mistake at the register but 2 cookies, slice of sweet roll, and sweet bread for $1.40, it's one of the best jatbar bargains. A solid 8 for the taste but bumping an extra half point for the value.

I spent $1.40 here and that gave a good lunchtime dessert for 2 of us today.

That. Is. So. Cheap.

We were driving by on our way out of the area after lunch at Top Dog. We needed something to sweeten up the lunch a bit, and thankfully Flores Bakery was on the way out for us. We stopped by just as they were pulling some fresh donuts out of the kitchen (how cool is that, for lunchtime?)

I skipped the donuts today and went with the Turtle shaped pastry, and a cookie (the one on the left in picture 7). The turtle was the first to go. It was ultra moist and sweet inside. And probably could have done it for me alone, it was pretty large. Its not your super sweet american pastry flavor, yet wasn't the ultra-bland japanese sweet either. A good balance in my book.

The cookie was next and it too was a pleasant surprise. The cookie looks like the ones you get in a package of Mothers (or similar) at the grocery store. Yet this thing is like night and day with any grocery store cookie that looks like this. In fact you can call those things wannabes, and this is the real deal. OK, this didn't ultimately blow me away, but it was still really good and makes you appreciate the fresh ingredients that went into the cookie, as opposed to some mass marketed cookie at the store.

Location was kind of rundown looking, or maybe its just old. It adds a certain amount of flavor, for sure, but might be a little bit offputting for people who aren't familiar with the goodies that are held within. And maybe this is on purpose. I wouldn't mind keeping this secret.
