Thanks to Mike and Katie for submitting Flower Flour. I knew they served pastries and sandwiches but didn't know they were also a florist. Off Willow and down the street from one of my favorite mexican restaurants, Taqueria Tlaquepaque. It's hard to miss this place as the beautiful murals will attract your attention.

It's not the place you'd want to bring your guy friends to, it's more of the foo-foo type place most girls would love. Seating is limited with 4-5 tables inside and 2 smaller tables outside. I gotta give props to Flower Flour for having an elegant atmosphere, very girly but I can dig it.

There are 3 sandwiches on the chalkboard to choose from and I went with the smoked turkey breast with swiss. Bread is made on premises and looks almost like a long giant croissant. Sandwiches are $5 and presented in a appetizing display. (see picture #12). Oh yeah, and I couldn't resist their desserts and ended up with a macaroon.

bread - slightly chilled from the deli case, it tasted like a buttered croissant. very tasty. I don't think I've had bread like this in a sandwich.

turkey - thick slice of turkey, probably sliced off deli meat, very good

cheese - thick slice of cheese, very european as the slice of cheese is as thick as the meat. very good.

toppings - tomato, romaine, light mayo, everything tasted fresh

I loved the sandwich and don't understand how I can go back to eating chain sandwiches after this? It's a light tasting sandwich and the ingredients were top-notch. It's not difficult to see why Flower Flour had steady foot traffic during our visit.

Ahh..the coconut macaroon, served chilled, moist to the finger tips, size of a large marshmellow, $1 each, could have been browned more but taste is the most important thing....wow. Dangerously delicious and sweet. Next time you visit, order one for me.

Flower Flour is a special place to visit. You won't find too many places like this in the Bay Area, trust me, when you get to visit over 600 restaurants, it's easy to spot the places that are well deserving a 9, congrats to Flower Flour for a delightful lunch.

I was seriously going to give this place a solid 8.5. But its such a unique lunchtime experience, it deserves to be put up a notch to 9. Read on...

We were driving around the area, and Jason spots this place, remembering a wishlist request. The area was old, not really rundown, but an older neighborhood. We park nearby and walk there. The place kind of feels like its in the middle of a neighborhood, with houses all around it. Perhaps lots of the foot traffic into the place is from locals who live nearby?

Anyway, we walk in and the place feels equally down to earth. Lots of flowers are busying up the place, so it can feel a bit cramped inside. There are plenty of small tables, however, and we manage to secure one upon entering. We place our orders at the counter. There are not many sandwich specials for the day. I opt for the Tuna Salad sandwich, and couldn't pass up a pecan dessert bar to finish it off.

The sandwiches are premade and the arrival of my food was instantaneous - and on a nice plate too. I take it over to the table and wait for Jason to take the required pictures. Then I dig in. The bread tasted fresh. Not the best tasting I've had, but passable. The tuna salad however was fresh and flavorful. I think what really picked it up was the tiny pieces of chopped apple in it. Yeah, you read that right. Interesting to say the least and gave the sandwich a refreshing flavor. It also arrived with a scoop of potato salad which was just ok. It was a decent sized, sandwich, but the dessert was required to finish me off.

I dug into the pecan bar, and wow. Amazing stuff. So rich and delectable. I would put its quality at a step below what you'd find at La Patisserie in Cupertino, but still this was a solid dessert and I enjoyed far too much of it than I probably should have. Great stuff.

All the time while you are eating, you are sitting at this european stylish table and chairs surrounded by fresh bouquets of flowers. Not exactly a top Jatbar moment, us 2 guys being surrounded by flowers and all, but it was sure different. :)

I left the place completely full and obliterated from the tasty goodness. Next time I am in the area (DMV is not far from here) I will stop by again.

Mommy ate...

"famous" cinnamon morning bun

It was the most delicious thing I have had in a long time. It was a croissant dipped in cinnamon sugar kinda melty toward the center. This bun should be famous around the world. It is also open late for dessert. I need to try everything there!
