I liked Global Vegetarian Bistro enough that I wanted to take my coworker Chris here. On my 2nd visit, the doors were closed which appeared the restaurant was undergoing some renovations. Let's hope they open their doors soon.

On our first visit, Terry and I were roaming around downtown San Jose looking for a new place to eat. We normally check the jatbar restaurant wish list and depending on where we are, we'll spot a place in about 10-15 minutes. Global Vegetarian Bistro occupies the old location of Good Karma restaurant and keeps the same style of cuisine, Vegetarian.

It's been awhile since I've been in this building and recall the restaurant being narrow inside with my guestimation at 10-12 feet wide. The waiter popped out of the kitchen and told us to pick any table. Although the restaurant was inhabited by jatbar and a monk, there was plentiful foot traffic ordering food to go.

Quickly browsing the menu, I ordered a wonderful dish called grilled chicken and veggies. I also made the mistake of misreading tofu nuggets. The mistake being, I thought they were going to be fried chicken nuggets.

As with any vegetarian meals, 2 things pop into my head

1. How salty is thing going to be?

The grilled chicken tasted like a Hawaiian style bbq chicken with a soy sauce (or whatever they use) glaze. You might thing it's salty for regular food but vegetarian, I think it's average. Along with the chicken was broccoli, carrots, and pale white cauliflower. The vegetables had no seasoning or sauce and steamed to firmness. They were out of brown rice today and went with fluffy white.

2. What will the texture feel like on my palette?

Texture of the chicken was as good as it gets. Tasted good but the real winner of the lunch was Terry's steak and veggies. That was incredible!! The beef looked like real beef and you can see a close up on picture 7.

The steak and veggies is something you have to try. I drove back here a second time just wanting to do a repeat order. Maybe next time.

Worst part of the lunch was the tasteless tofu nuggets. They were cubes of tofu dusted in an awful breading and flash fried. I would not reorder this appetizer even if you paid me.

Drove by for a visit yesterday and the doors were closed. The notice said they were renovating the restaurant and would be open soon.
