Another excellent donut experience added to my ever growing donut gut. Happy Donuts has an outstanding selection for running in there after lunch. Most donut shops Ive been to in the afternoon have weak selections seeming that they only cook 1 batch in the morning. This is not the case for Happy Donuts. The selection will make you happy. I do not know if all Happy Donuts are owned by the same person/company but the one in San Jose is top-notch.

The donuts themselves are wonderful. The rainbow sprinkles being a favorite of mine might have been dethroned. After decades of eating rainbow looking cakes, I tried a blueberry donut for the 1st time. OMG its like eating a deep fried blueberry muffin with sweet glaze on top. Its pure bliss....

Long live Happy Donuts and their superb Blueberry Donut.

We stopped by Happy Donuts after a lunch of Pho (needed something sweet) and Happy Donuts fit the bill perfectly. I ordered a regular glazed and an old fashioned glaze. The guy behind the counter even threw in a few donut holes without me even asking. BONUS.

The donut holes were decent. A bit on the stale side so am glad I didn't order them. The old fashioned donut was nothing to speak of. A bit greasy, a bit tough. The glazing though was interesting. Different. It was normal glazing but they mixed in an ever so slight amount of maple in it, so the taste really zinged in your mouth.

The normal glazed donut blew me away. It had the maple glaze and it was super gooey. Wasn't warm but definitely was FRESH. If you order this thing in the morning when its hot and fresh I think it will be approaching Stans level. The donut was just exploding with a nice balanced sweet flavor. I look forward to returning.

Man, how disappointing this trip was to Happy Donuts. I was craving an Apple Fritter all week, and finally I caved in and decided to venture to a different donut shop.
I order an Apple Fritter and some Donut holes.
The Donut Holes were under cooked. Almost like a raw dough in the center. Very tasteless, with little glaze on the Holes.
Now the Fritter...A good Apple Fritter needs to be on the cripy side with minimal rise in the yeast. This was almost opposite. It was like eating a normal raised donut with apples smashed inside. I usually pull pieces off an apple fritter and they 'snap' off the fritter. When tearing off bits of this 'so called fritter' It was like tearing the inside of a french roll. No texture. Very dissapointing.
Im aware that there are multipple happy donuts, but I assume the recipes are the same at all the locations. I will not dare to return to any Happy Donuts.

I actually like this place, fresh well-made donuts. quick and attentive service with a smile, along with a decent cup of coffee.

drop by here before group road trips reguarly, especially since it's tahoe season again.

Mommy ate...

Buttermilk, Boston Creme, Carmel, Apple Fritter

I am in so much trouble. I love these donuts. The buttermilk is a lovely crunchy, tangy carb fix. The chocolate icing is good with no off flavors, the custard as well. The fritter is flat, and crunchy and coated with a nice amount of glaze. Yummo.
