I had already made a visit to Hot Bite Kabob and left me with a somewhat unexciting lunch experience. I had ordered one of the sandwiches was just ok, something I wasnt dying to tell my friends about.

Terry had never been so I figured my visit was only 50% of the score. Browsing the menu, I had made plans on getting the shish kabob plate. My heart was set until the lady behind the counter told me about todays special, Lamb Shank with rice. Someone had already ordered it and it looked good from where I was sitting.

Its been awhile since Ive had lamb with my last experience at El Mansour in San Francisco. The thing with lamb is, I do not want the after taste or gaminess of the meat. I was crossing my fingers for a tasty meal hoping Hot Bite Kabob would deliver.

She hands me this giant plate with saffron rice, mixed with some beans, topped off with a nice size lamb shank. I proceeded to cut away and the meat was just falling off the bone. There was no need for the knife. Wow..what a lunch plate, this lamb tasted so good and tender with every bite glistening with flavor. I would have to say this lamb was well prepared and could belong on a dinner plate. For $12-13 it might be a little expensive for your average lunch but having lamb shank sure beats any thing on the menu at chilis or fridays. Give Hot Bite Kabob a try!

We arrive at Hot Bite and it wasn't too busy. There were one or two other folks inside, so they were able to get to our order fairly quickly. I ordered a Veggie Cheese Steak. I know, sounds weak for a middle eastern restaurant, but they just didn't have any other non-meat item i recognized. It would have been nice to see a falafel or something thrown in, but alas no. Its ok, I wasn't too hungry so it worked out. I just feel a little bad that I couldn't enjoy their specialty. 90% of the items on the menu were grilled meats.

The cheese steak arrived and it was piping hot, fresh from the grill. It consisted of onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and peppers. The bread was surprisingly fresh - probably the highlight of the sandwich. The rest, while warm on this somewhat chilly lunch hour, was about average. Fresh but not mind blowing. I still found it to be tasty. If the price wasn't so high (nearly $6 for this sandwich) I would probably bump it up to an 8 in flavor.

Unfortunately the meal only included a sandwich - fries were an extra $2.75 which I wasn't going to spend for this meal. Some chips at least would have been a good gesture.

Service was friendly and quick, the place was clean. I would rather eat a cheese steak here than one of the other local grease-pits in the area. Sounds like Jason had a good time here as well, so I will probably be back. Maybe next time I will be more hungry and make a stop at Bijan bakery nearby afterwards. :)

This place is almost a weekly visit and the second choice for persian kabobs in the area.

Kabobs are made fresh to order, the host is extremely nice, helpful and generous. no real raves, yet no complaints either. the quality and amount of food for the price is spot on.
