Huong Sandwiches was a last minute stop on the way back to work. I won't mention the lunch we had about 10 minutes earlier and this one being our 2nd lunch. I'll also pretend that I didn't order shrimp rolls and a grilled pork banh mi sandwich for $3.50.

The shrimp rolls (image 5) were sitting on the counter uncovered and haven't a clue how long they've been sitting. They weren't too greasy yet the wrapper was crispy and golden brown. The spring rolls had a shrimp mixture with heavy garlic taste. If you like shanghai lumpia, you'll enjoy these. It's 4 for a $1 and a definite repeat order for me.

The lady behind the counter barely spoke english but polite in taking my order. She took her time and placed the round baguette in the toaster oven and prepped the toppings. The sandwich ($2.50, image 6) contained; daikons, carrots, peppers, cilantro, grilled pork, and a dark sauce (hoisin?) which I'm not sure what it was. I waited until I got to work to split it with my co-worker Mark. He's familiar with banh mi sandwiches and recommended the popular Dakao down the street.

Both of us agreed the sandwiches were extremely tasty. The grilled pork was slightly sweet and had some charring. The meat were in larger chunks and consider it a real treat. The bread was flakey on the outside and chips fell in every bite. Keep an eye out on the stealth peppers, they're hot. Their bread is much much better than Lee's Sandwiches and possibly better than Dakao. Prices are about 25 cents more than the special sandwiches at Dakao but Huong Sandwiches puts more meat.

The sandwiches are super cheap and I think Huong Sandwiches makes my top 5 list for banh mi. Please give them a try if you're in the area. Walking distance to SJSU, free and metered parking available, open 6 days a week 8AM-7PM, closed Tuesday.
