My Burger Place was recommended by one of our agents Tanya. Situated in downtown San Jose, this burger place has 2 major things going for them. They are open very late and the flame broil their burgers.

At first, we were a bit worried being downtown and looking for a parking spot. It was our good luck we scored a parking spot right in front on the restaurant. Things are definitely looking good, well almost, My Burger Place is cash only so we took a short stroll around the block and found a B of A on 4th.

Now Im thinking, for the jatbar fans, I needed to do them right and go big. I went with the double cheeseburger with no pickles. If I recall correctly, thats 2/3lb burger meat over an open flame. Along with that order came the fries and coke.

fries - zig zagged shaped fries, reminds me of the OG fries at carls jr back in the early 80s. They didnt taste like Carls but they did the job

bun - sesame and reallly fluffy. I liked this bun a lot and kinda glad it didnt come super toasted or anything

toppings - bermuda onions, 1 to 2 slices of tomato, lettuce, mayo, onion, and 2 slices of american cheese.

meat - I know I talk about patties being cumbly and using high end ground beef but My Burger Place isnt exactly that. I doubt they use Neiman Ranch but these burgers were great!! They tasted so good cooked over an open flame and patties were thick/juicy/full of flavor.

When you combine all these ingrediants, you get a LA style burger. If you have been to LA, you will see tons of these burger shacks with char-broiled posted on their neon signs, menus have pastrami burgers, bacon onion ring burger, etc. My Burger Place is the 1st place Ive been to in the bay area where they fit the LA style. If you are homesick from a LA burger or just want a good flame broiled burger where globs of cheese are melted into the burger, every bite having that fine charred taste, and want to feel completely satisfied after finishing the double cheeseburger...say it with me MY BURGER PLACE.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 5/30/2007 - 8 Rating: Made a return visit. Had the double cheesebuger with fries. It's a big burger (2/3lb+) that 's cooked over an open flame. The burger still tastes good. I don't remember what the prices were on my last visit but a double cheeseburger is $8.65 now. Add fries and a drink and you're pushing $12. Kinda expensive for a greasy burger shack.

My Burger Place was a recommendation on the wishlist. Seeing that we don't get to downtown San Jose often enough, it seemed like a good call. We get down there and luckily find quick parking. MBP is located next to Toons and San Jose State University. Pretty good location actually, especially since they are open late for the partiers.

Anyway, the major bummer here for me was the cash-only response I got to the ATM question. Oh well, got to go find an ATM. Spent 15 minutes walking around downtown (which actually is pretty nice) until we finally found BofA (if you don't know where it is - just turn left (if you are facing MBP) and your first right (onto 3rd street) and then left onto San Fernando and you'll see it. About 2 blocks away from MBP.

We get back and place our orders. I went for the Veggie Burger over the Garden Burger because I wanted the 2 slices of cheese. I also ordered a vanilla milkshake.

The milkshake arrived first. Basically its just soft-serve ice cream poured into a cup. A little tough consistency-wise. I probably won't order it again. I'd much prefer one at the local Diary Belle. It wasn't too bad tho.

Then after an interminably long wait the burger arrives (I was pretty hungry so the wait wasn't THAT long but it seemed like probably 5 minutes). It looked promising. Usually veggie burgers are rather bland tasting, but this one has some good flavor to it. I added some ketchup and it was perfect. There was a perfect amount of lettuce and tomato. No OD on lettuce like some places tend to do. This is definitely not a place where I regretted ordering the Veggie Burger. The whole package tastes good. Its not just about the flavor of the meat making the burger. The bun was toasted and fresh, the other ingredients great. All in all I was pleased with the burger. I think they definitely don't use a separate grill for their veggie burgers. It had a lot of grease on it. Oh well. It was good, so can't complain too much.

I was a little disappointed the burger didn't come with fries. I sampled one of Jasons and it was decent for the frozen variety. Crispy on outside, soft on the inside.

I was in downtown San Jose for a class trip today and decided to check out either Peggy Sue's, La Victoria, or My Burger Place as long as I was in the area since I rarely go that far down south. I settled on My Burger Place because I felt like getting a burger and My Burger Place's patties are 1/3 lb. (sometimes I'm a sucker for quanitity over quality). After walking around in the hot, hot sunshine, admiring the architecture in the historic district, I was ready for some good chow. The inside of My Burger Place was pretty deserted, as I was one of only two customers. Then again, I did go at an off hour (about 2:30pm). I spent a few minutes deciding what I wanted, but after considering that many of the 'theme' burgers only had one patty, I decided to go for a double cheeseburger with just one slice of cheese and extra onions. When they set my meat on the grill, I was disappointed to see that the patties were not hand formed. Rather, they were of the circular, flat variety. On the plus side, while the counter lady (presumably the owner) prepared the vegetable-d side of the bun, she basically told me to 'say when' with the onions, which I appreciated. My burger took a number of minutes to cook, which signalled to me that they were either overcooking it or taking a lot of care to prepare it well. I prayed for the latter. Luckily, the burger was not overdone. When I got my hands on the thing, I was pleased with its size. This was one of those burgers that you can barely open your mouth wide enough to get a good bite out of, but it also doesn't fall apart in your hands, either. The bun was not too dry or gummy, but nothing really special, either. I would have preferred for it to be grilled or toasted. As far as veggies go, the onions were thinly sliced, which I like, but so was the barely-there tomato, which I don't. Overall, the greens were used in a tasteful manner for periphery flavor and textures rather than overwhelming the burger like at In-N-Out. The clear focal point of this sandwich was the thick, substantial portion of beef. The meat was not overly dry, nor overly greasy, with a nice beefy flavor. I was glad to see that the patties weren't flat and floppy McDonald's style patties, though they weren't super-thick steakhouse patties, either. I'd say the meat was perhaps a little lower in quality than In-N-Out's, but it was prepared much better (In-N-Out chars them until they're dry and cardboard-y), and there was much more of it. When I finished my burger, I was full and didn't have that gross feeling in my mouth like you get after eating, say, a Jack In The Box Ultimate Cheeseburger. If you're the type that goes for fries and/or a shake with your burger (I'm not), you'd probably find that one of the single patty burgers is enough to satisfy you. In both price and quality, My Burger Place's burgers fall squarely in between your fast food grease-pucks and your resturant steak burgers, which could be good or bad, depending on how much time and money you have to spend. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend My Burger Place for burgers if you're in the area, looking for a good burger and willing to pay a little more for it.
