Hidden under the large palms and banana tree sits one of the most popular thai restaurants in San Jose, New Krungthai. You've probably seen the other location down the street on Winchester. They used to be related prior to the divorce and we'll leave it at that.

Looking for a quite lunch? New Krungthai has to be the loudest lunches for jatbar to this day. I guess it's expected when every table is taken.

Blah blah blah, waters, orders, short wait and food is served.

I made the mistake of ordering the fried shrimps. If you ate the heavily bread shrimps by themselves, you'd think you were eating shrimp flavored cardboard. Dip it into the thai plum sauce and it's night and day. It suddenly becomes eatable. For $7.95, I don't think it's worth it and would rather spend it on cupcakes at Aki Bakery. It's only 3 miles away.

For my main course I got the house special pad thai. 90% of the time when a restaurant boasts it's the best X in the area, without a doubt, it never lives up to the expectation. Surprisingly I wholeheartedly agree with New Krungthai. Their pad thai is rock solid with a rating in the 8.5 range. The noodles weren't all stuck together, maybe it's the heavy coating of oil. Hey, at least they load you up on fried tofu and chicken. One minor complaint, what's the deal with the 1 prawn? The menu description says prawnssssssss, plural. At $9.95, you need to hook it up!!! I finished half and brought the rest home for dinner. Just as good at dinner.

Watch out for the prices on the appetizers, they're expensive at $7.95 - $8.95. Skip the appetizer and order another entree. If you can handle the obnoxious noise, the food is definitely worth visiting for, well at least the pad thai.
