Pho My was a random visit as we stumbled upon it by accident. We were suppose to be hitting a sushi restaurant but they were closed. Even the web site stated they were open. Anyways, we pulled up into Pho My with no expectations. I stuck with the pho and ordered lemon grass prawns and bowl of steak and fatty brisket.

The lemon grass prawns are dropped off at the table and are a complete ripoff. They are nearly $8 and are tiny! We're talking 40-50 of these things for a pound at $9 and these guys are charging 6 for $8??? Are you kidding me? DO NOT ORDER THE LEMON GRASS PRAWNS. If you're going to charge $8, they need to be large prawns. As for taste, they weren't terrible but nowhere near outstanding.

The bowls took longer than usual to land out our tables. Take a look at picture 10, there's really nothing happening in this bowl. It's not looking happy, not too many greens, not a big oil slick, and what's with the huge pieces of fat. I know I ordered fatty brisket, but I figured it would have looked like bacon. I remove all the fatty brisket pieces and placed it on the side plate (Picture 12). The pictures don't lie, I had to confirm with my pho experts back at work. They said brisket shouldn't look like pure fat.

With all the fatty brisket in the soup, you'd think the soup would have a full flavor. It was more watered down and lacking the slow cook rich broth. Noodles were ok, steak was ok, overall broth was disappointing.

Combined with the overpriced lemon grass prawns and uninspired pho, I can't see myself making a return visit anytime soon.

Jason was looking for another restaurant down here in San Jose, and when we discovered that it was closed it kind of put us both in a subpar mood. The chances of us finding a knockout recommendation like the closed place would probably be pretty slim. But we played it safe and tried one of the Pho shops in the area.

Place is kind of large for a Pho shop and was fairly clean and organized. We picked a table in the middle of the restaurant and scanned the menu. Your standard items here, so I settled on the small vegetable Pho.

For a Pho place the food was relatively slow to arrive. Not a big deal, but worth noting. The pho looked by the numbers, not bad. And honestly it tasted pretty good, no oil slicks on the top and fresh noodles. Broth was tasty and hit the spot on this rainy day. Not really a place I would seek out, but they did everything decently and its not a place I would avoid.
