We had a brutle week with food last week and decided to take it easier this week. I kinda suggest we do vegetarian week which probably caught Terry by surprise. Terry asked around and came back with Sogo Tofu.

I dont know much about tofu type dishes so all I can offer is if the food appealed to me. Sogo Tofu looks much like a walk up market with food to go but they do have 1 table outside if you decide to eat there. The deli cases are filled with tons and tons of food to choose from. You could feed a small army with the reserves.

I guess the thing to order is the lunch special at $5.99 with noodles and 3 sides. If you break down the cost per lb, it comes out to $2 a lb. Im not kidding when I say dishes are huge but this is ridiculous. I almost wanted to stop the guy behind the counter to stop piling up my plate. It was enough food for 2 adults and 2 small kids. I'll do my best to describe the meal

spicey noodles - about 1.5lbs worth, very oily but great stuff. Spice is the key to life..haha

knockoff shrimp with veggies - the fake shrimps were shaped like shrimps, even painted the same color but did they taste like shrimps? For knockoffs I have to give them props. It was really really impressive. My favorite dish out of the bunch.

fake chicken with bell peppers - another dish that could have easily passed for a real chicken meal. So much flavor in this veggie meal and I wouldnt mind ordering this over the real chicken.

green beans and mushrooms - I wast too big of a fan of this, maybe its my tough love on shrooms, its not Sogo's fault, its just my preference.

Just some recommendations for Sogo, ease off on the portions. These are some of the biggest servings that jatbar has seen! Last but not least, sell bottled water. If you are going to have a table outside for eating, you should have the option to buy water while eating the food.

If you can get passed the texture roadblock of these imitation type meats, you'll do fine. Have an open mind and give Sogo Tofu a try. The people are exceptionally nice and even surprised us with free soy milk and desserts.

My team at work talked up Sogo quite a bit. Many are into healthy eating and so it was with great anticipation that I visited Sogo Tofu. Jason and I were in the mood for some healthier fare after a spate of extremely unhealthy food the previous week.

We enter Sogo and spy the huge buffet spread. Large gobs of food are piled high and wide awaiting the Tofu consumer. For $5.99 you get rice or noodles and 3 items. So basically 4 items. They try to cram it all into a large styrofoam take-out tray but they really don't do a good job. They simply give you more food than the container was meant to hold.

I went with the spicy noodles, a bok-choy vegetable dish (with Tofu), the eggroll, and a 'beef' tofu dish. Every item was extremely flavorful and difficult to resist. The downside was that all of the items had a LOT of grease. So while the food was very vegetarian friendly, it probably wasn't the healthiest. That really didn't matter for me once I started eating it. I kept moving from one item to the next, sampling and resampling. I just couldn't find a favorite, they all were so good, and eventually couldn't take out the whole plate. It outlasted me and I left a good bunch of the noodles out of fullness.

The owners were very friendly. Since we were eating in the only table in front of the store, they brought out some warm soy milk which was very refreshing. And as we were leaving, the man rushed out to give us some complimentary dessert as well- those sesame balls you see in the picture. That was definitely above and beyond the call, so have to give them props for service.

After the meal I felt a little guilty for eating so much greasy food, but now later in the evening as I type this, I am thinking back happily on the tasty lunch I had and wishing I had save those spicy noodles so I could be finishing them off now. No doubt I will return to Sogo Tofu, hopefully it will be soon.
