Up up and away we go to Super Taqueria in San Jose. Having heard from a reliable source that this place is a favorite among SJSU students. Terry and I had to investigate by making the drive to downtown. Parking might be tough but we lucked out on a spot on the street right across from the taqueria. There's no signs on the building so just look for the Superman type logo in picture #1.
We walk in and a gush of something horrid hits my nose. I noticed down the hall the bathroom door was opened, aaahhh...funk. Even the floors smelled like a mix of cleaning detergents and blllaaaah. Sometimes you have to just look past these things and march ahead.
Its a shame I didnt order the carne asada, they have the fire grill going. I with my standard super burrito with carnitas. Topped with beans, cheese, guac, and meat.
tortilla - steamed, moist and I cant remember the brand they were using but you can pick it up at the mexican markets. La Rosa??
beans - best part of the burrito, melts in your mouth - just dont forget to hit the treadmill later on.
guac - you cant go wrong with 2 slices of avocado
carnitas - it wasnt crunchy at all, probably baked and they removed all the skin and chopped up the meat. It wasnt bad, its just not my type of carnitas. They didnt skimp out on the meat, plenty to go around.
Would I come back? No doubt about it, the burrito as a whole was great. I like the fact they have salsa bottles where you can douse your burrito as much as you want. Their red salsa is quite the complement and should be eaten with every bite :) I have no problems eating at seedy places but the smell of the restaurant was getting to me. I probably would have enjoyed the burrito more if I ate it outside. Other than that, Super Taqueria serves a mighty fine burrito.

Jason said we had to Super Taqueria. 'Another contender for best burrito'. At that I rolled my eyes, but sure - why not. Haven't had a burrito in awhile.
We get there and its pretty rundown looking. The outside, while clean, looked very dated and the bum kicking back in front didn't improve the image much either. The inside, was much of the same. It smelled like a toilet in there - maybe they just cleaned the place - but it didn't smell appetizing. The menu on the wall looked old and rundown. Basically if you look in the wikipedia under Dive Restaurant, someone will have to add a jatbar picture of Super Taqueria.
I go with a Super Veggie burrito and add the sour cream. I also get it with rice and refried beans. Make sure you know what you're getting - there are quite a few options and if you go with the standard veggie burrito you'll be missing out on some potentially good stuff. I also went with a cheese quesodilla as I always order that to try out my favorite bits by themselves (the cheese and tortilla)
The food arrived quickly. They supply green and red sauces for you at the table in the very nice squeeze bottles.
The burrito looked legit and was of sufficient size. I bite into it, and oh my god, this thing is damn good. I think it might even edge out Los Altos Taqueria for the veggie burrito. The refried beans were mixed up with the rice and it was a VERY tasty combination indeed. There wasn't much veggie in the burrito, but the potent combination of refried and rice kept me going. There was cheese as well but not very much. The sour cream was layered in their heaviliy and really brought this burrito up a notch. If you like it, definitely order it. I tried both the green and red sauce, and while they both were decent, the red was better and a bit spicy as well.
This burrito filled me up like few have and after eating it I felt completely worked. I think I shouldn't have proceeded, but I had to try the cheese quesodilla.
I could only manage half of it. It was decent, but admittedly the cheese was not the best. The highlight is definitely the tortilla here. Still the overall combination was good enough that I overfilled myself for it.
I would return here in a heartbeat but next time I will seek out someplace outside to eat it in some (slightly) fresher air.

I stopped by after trying a bite of my boyfriend's mom's burrito. I ordered my usual, super burrito carne asada, and I was looking for a fresca, but they only had horchata, which I'm not too fond of, but I got anyways.
The burrito was pretty good, definitely above average. Everything was put together nicely. I thought the meat was a touch overcooked as I had trouble swallowing and I ran out of horchata and I had to find myself some water. I probably would have enjoyed the burrito a lot more if it didn't have any meat in it, but I am really picky about the meat that I eat, and I rarely think that it's cooked to perfection.
The horchata was suprisingly good. It didn't have too much cinnamon, and it wasn't too sweet. I would get it again, despite not liking it too much before.
After eating at La Victoria, I feel that any burrito I eat can be improved upon by their notorious orange hot sauce, so I think that adding that sauce to their burritos would make them totally scrumptious. |

Super Taqueria on Ironwood and Almaden Expressway was HOPPIN' today.. I arrived at 5:30 to a constant line of people in and out to this new location.
I walk in to the usual terra cota tiled floor and festive taqueria colors. They've also added outdoor dining. Nothing spectacular, but everything was new and tidy.
I order the super burrito with carne asada. I took out the avocado and replaced it with sour cream.
After missing lunch I was darn hungry so I tore into it in the car. At first I was thinking taqueria's define 'super' by either size or amount of ingredients. ST definitely goes with the ingredients 'super' definition. My burrito wasn't super in size, but included pintos, meat, cheese, and pico. I again opted for sour cream instead of avocado. (I know, I'm weird)
At first bite I tasted a fresh steamed standard flour tortilla and some thin, but deliciously grilled meat. Well marinated and plenty of it! From there, it was a bit disappointing. First off it wasn't wrapped tightly and juices were running out the end. Good thing I was alone. It wasn't pretty eating over the bag. Inside were under seasoned but tender pintos and way too much juice from them. My sour cream was melted quickly and I had to slurp after each bite to prevent an even bigger mess. Their hot sauce adding a nice zing but I felt like I was eating bean and sour cream soup with added carne asada. What a mess... The cheese was meted on my tortilla and perhaps that's why the whole thing didn't completely fall apart. Tasted pretty good, but shoot.... they need to slotted spoons to the bean pan and maybe train their guys to wrap those tortillas tighter.
I was a good value at 3.79 plus tax. Enough to fill you up, but not stuff. Currently they are cash only... keep that in mind. I'd go back because the carne asada meat was so good, but perhaps not in a burrito. Maybe a taco isn't as soupy!

This is the McLaughlin location.
I ordered a regular carnitas burrito and service was quick. I don't think my burrito had rice in it, but thats okay, although I do prefer rice over pinto beans. The burrito was overloaded with meat, which is good, but the carnitas was a bit on the salty side. Way saltier than I've ever had it. I don't have much to complain aside from that. I'd liked that they kept the beans to a minimum, the burrito was wrapped tight, and it wasn't leaking juice. Not to mention that a regular burrito is under 4 dollars (3.79). I'd definitely return for carne asada.
