So back in the early 80's, a fast food restaurant called Taco Bell was pumping out some of the tastiest non-mexican somewhat mexican fast food on the planet. They were an up and coming restaurant that offered greasy ground beef, real shredded cheese, crunchy taco shells at bargain prices. They dominated the fast food mexican scene up until the 90's when they started to introduce these gawd awful lite menu items. Real shredded cheese turned into this waxy low fat grade of cheese, beef became this pre-cooked beef in plastic bags, and even the corn shells changed for the worst.

If you can remember the golden era of Taco Bell from the 80's, you'll be happy to learn Taco Bravo continues where Taco Bell dropped the ball. I've been here 4 times and never been let down with their tacos. Here's what I've tried so far

taco - corn shell, lettuce, loads of ground beef and heavy serving of shredded orange cheese, my 2nd favorite item on the menu

soft taco - like the regular taco but with flour tortilla

super taco - add sour cream, tomatoes, and olives. I normally don't like sour cream on mexican food but love it on fast food mexican.

bravo taco - my absolute favorite. It's a deep fried flour tortilla super taco. Incredibly bad for your health yet I continue to live on the wild side. Just give it a try.

Taco Delight - this one is straight off a Taco Bell menu. It's a flour tortilla with beans wrapped around a regular taco. Wasn't too impressed with this.

Tostada - think of it as a flat taco and substitute the beef for beans. It's just ok, they load it up with too many beans.

Terry and Jarrod swear by the burritos but I'm more of a taco person. Taco Bravo is a guilty pleasure and I'll continue to visit when I'm in one of those moods.

A friend and i visited the new location of the legendary mini-chain, Taco Bravo.
this place brings many memories of barhopping at the pruneyard, and also of the old location on saratoga-sunnyvale, by where hwy 85 is now.

this place has very late (and also abnormally early hours), open until 3am on friday and saturday, and one am on thur, open at 9am every day.

this location used to be a taco bell, and has the classic t-hell adobe architecture motif...a funny coincedence.
the interior is sparse. this place is basiclly a taco stand. very limited seating (next to none).
the very simple menu is also quite inexpensive.

tacos start at $1.39 for meat, lettuce and cheese (they use a ton of cheese here).
a super taco is $2.89 and comes with meat, lettuce, cheese, tomato, sour cream, and black olive (they are big on black olives here.
the bravo taco is the same as a super taco but is on a fried flour tortilla.
they offer a taco delight which is similar to a 'dubl-dekr' from taco hell (but better tasting).
they have nachos, burritos, and a very few other items.
subbing chicken on any item is only 25 cents. drinks are inexpensive.
my friend and i shared a mini super nachos ($3.34, chips, refried beans, green sauce, meat, cheese sauce, cheese, tomato, sour cream, black olives, and jalapenos), and i went with a bravo taco and she a super taco.
the total came to almost ten bucks.
the tacos were about twice the size of t-hell. the nachos didn't look very large, but they were pretty filling. there was plenty of beans, meat, etc.

on the night we visited, the place was very slow. the staff of two were friendly, which is almost wierd for fast-food. the guy made a quesadilla for customers to sample, oddly, there are no quesadillas on the menu. it was good.

this place is really nothing special....or, nothing more than it aspires to be. a fast-food taco stand that seems like a better idea the drunker and drunker you get. very inexpensive and sure to hit the spot, and hey, not many places are open till 3am.

I am glad to know they are in the neighborhood, and will definately go back.
