Tacos Mexico was submitted by a student at San Jose Community College. I was a bit skeptical on the user stating it's one of the best tacos in area and the restaurant is always packed and so on. I've heard this same story a million times but when it comes to mexican food, I'm always willing to take on the challenge. Arrived at noon and every single table was taken. Everyone had tacos on their table so I followed their lead and ordered a regular taco ($1.69) and super taco ($2.29). Tacos are a little more expensive than other taquerias but the tacos are much larger. Order 2 super tacos and it should do the job.

regular carne asada taco (picture 6) - 2 corn tortillas, finely chopped asada, plenty of meat in the taco, salsa fresca, whole pinto beans. Normally not fond of beans but Tacos Mexico puts a tiny amount which adds tastiness. They have 2 types of salsa, red and green, it's definitely worth trying both and I fancied the green salsa by far. Had some heat and complex mexican flavors. regular tacos very good, I'd rate it a solid 8.

super carnitas taco (picture 8, right taco) - holy smokes, a true jatbar winner. I don't know if it was a mistake but the person who made my super taco lightly deep fried one of my tortillas (picture 7), wrapped a lightly grilled tortilla behind that and the soft/crunch texture. Please don't compare those wannabe ones at Taco Bell, this one is for real. The heat from the hot oil was enough to melt the cheese. Mixed in was pinto beans, salsa fresca, and 2 lovely slices of avocado. If you follow my taqueria reviews, you'll know I have this Carnitas fetish with crunchy n moist pork. Well, let's say goodbye to old habits and enjoy the non-crunch-moist version served at Tacos Mexico with green salsa. I'm making a return visit next week to confirm the ingredients and super taco making process. Deliciously rated a 9.

I don't know how their burritos taste because you'll have to pry me away from their excellent tacos. To give you an idea how much I enjoyed them, I hit up 2 different taco trucks this weekend just hoping I would get something remotely like the tacos at Tacos Mexico. Well, the taco trucks were good but nowhere near what I had at Tacos Mexico. It's so good I'm making a visit this week to confirm a fluke or real deal.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 11/7/2006 - 9 Rating: As promised, I made a return visit for the super tacos to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Here's what I found,

- the inner tortillas wasn't as fried as my last visit but still tasted excellent

- carne asada tasted much better this round as was the carnitas.

The super tacos are super terrific. They are a better deal than the regular tacos and for 60 cents more, you get fresh avocado and cheese. Tacos Mexico lands one of my favorite tacos in the bay area. Rated 9 fo'sho.

Happened upon this place while randomly driving around the area, having no idea that jason had already reviewed it. Which might have been a good thing, it meant i had no preconceived notions about what to expect. The line of hardworking blue collar guys waiting to order was a good sign.

My usually routine at a new taqueria is to order several tacos, so as to sample a variety of the meat choices. Oddly TM had neither al pastor or pollo asado, so I went with carnitas, lengua and carne asada.

A couple a things sets these tacos apart from other taquerias:

- they're wrapped in a cone shape double tortilla, similar to a sushi hand roll. That make them easier to eat, since the fillings won't fall out of the open end.

- they add pinto beans. Normally i prefer all meat tacos, but the beans added some nice texture and made them more filling without detracting much from their flavor.

Each taco was pretty tasty in it's own way:

lengua - chewy, good beef flavor, great texture

carnitas - not the crispy style which i prefer, but moist and savory, great pork flavor

carne asada - slightly greasy, w/ a nice char and flavor

A slight downgrade for not offering al pastor or pollo asado, but definitely worth a return visit to sample the super tacos per jason's recommendation.

2 Steak Super Tacos

The Jatbar review is DEAD-ON accurate. I'd hate to see the calorie count on the two steak super tacos I ordered but they were G-O-O-D, and YES, Virginia, the inner tortilla on each was fried.
