We were originally going to Freshly Baked Eatery but they were closed. Jose had mentioned/pleaded to go to Tico's Tacos as an alternative. Not a bad choice, it's around the corner and we could leave the car where it was. Not knowing what I was getting into, I figured Jose wouldn't let me down when it comes to Mexican food.

Tico's Tacos is a blast to the past and at age 50 years old, looks like interior was frozen at 1982. With orange colored seats and a jukebox that's presented in STEREO, yes..that is correct, both speakers have the ability to play their channels independently. You gotta love technology. We should have picked a song during lunch.

The ordering process is kinda confusing. You place an order, they call your order for pickup, then you pay for your meal? What about just paying for your meal when you place the order? I ordered a tamale and combo plate (picture 6). The plate comes with tostada, taco, rice, beans, and salad.

salad - didn't both trying, it was deep in salad dressing

beef tamale (picture 7) - I liked it a lot, served with a mild red sauce. Priced at $2.25 and would order again.

rice and beans - the best thing at lunch. It's so good, it's a huge mismatch with other items. Rice and beans is on a par with some of the better sit down Mexican restaurants in the area yet the taco/tostada are a notch above Taco Bell.

Taco - fast food style, like Taco Bell in the 80's. Their tacos filled with ground beef, shredded lettuce, and real cheese. If you like Taco Bravo, you'll like Tico's Tacos. Bonus points for the style taco wrapper in picture 11.

Tostada - surprisingly good. the tostada shell was thicker than normal and had mounds of cheese. Highly suggest getting one of these as they completely blow away the ones at Taco Bell

For ~$11, it was expensive. At that price, you are approaching 80% of the lunch specials at sit down Mexican restaurants. The food is in the same league as Taco Bravo. It's completely a guilty pleasure if you like this type of Mexican food but I did enjoy most of it. I believe the food rates a 7.5 but the prices are too high. Overall score is a 7.
