Ive lived in the San Mateo area for a couple of years now and had no idea Aldos Pizza was hiding off on Norfolk street. Part of the old neighborhood in San Mateo, you wont find your Starbucks or your Borders in this shopping center. Their web site mentions getting their start back in 1958 and gathered fame for their thin crust pizza. I was skeptical of this top secret crust and had to investigate.

I ordered the medium 2 topping pizza for $15 thin crust style. Stringy cheese and mild pizza sauce. The sausage was ok and the pepperoni was plentiful. Toppings were good quality but the part of the pizza that distinguishes from the other pizzerias is the crust. I havent a clue who owns this style of crust but there are others in the bay area who do this same cracker buttery crust. Others have described it as a frozen pizza crust, dont fool yourselves, its 10x better than what you get in the freezer. None of the pizza chains serve this style of crust and if you want to try something different, give Aldos thin crust style a try. This style of pizza is much greasier than I would like but overall the pizza was good.

Try to eat the pizza at Aldos Pizza as the crust taste will change in a matter of minutes. You can even watch the plasma screen tv and drink some beers at the bar. Prices might be higher than your pizza chains but they dont offer the top secret thin crust style pizza. If you're not sold on this thin crust, they do make a chicago deep dish, whole wheat thin crust, and the california style.

Aldos "Special" pizza

This the same pizza that my friends and I have been ordering for the last 33 years. We feel it's the best outside of Italy.
